G B L
You need to take a ride with the scanner hooked up to catch a freeze frame when the check engine is set off. Did you pull the code when the light came on? The fuel pressure regulator is more likely to cause a power issue. Does it still have the weird noise under the car? escobar
yea I think thats what we will do, ride around and try to data log. Yea the noise is just the exhaust system from the misfire. Its like a puffing sound. My mechanic is good, he will figure it out. I'll report back

escobar
yep, he scanned it yesterday and cylinder #4 is def. having issues. Its a valve for sure, its either slightly bent, or a spring is cracked or something. Its really not that bad but def. not right. I will have to pull the head off and replace the valves on #4. Strange thing is it passed the leakdown test but I dont know how accurate my gauge is.
G B L
Thanks for the up date , if the Piston hit the valve when the timing was off, then it could be sluggish closing and that would effect the idle the most. It is most likely the exhaust valve. This is turning into a mission for you. will expect the full up date when you get into it
escobar
yea your exactly right, I think the piston hit it, or it was slightly damaged during shipping... although I doubt that from how well that packaged it, but I guess anything is possible! In order to take the head off I have to remove the front engine cover which is a total pain with it in the car. I will probably just drive it like it is for a while until I finish all my other projects. It sucks but its not bad enough to really be a issue. I would love for it to be perfect but im not ready to tear into it again, I need it for my daily work truck.
G B L
Yup that is a royal pain. Don't let it go to long right now it is just a valve if you run it too long it will need the seat cut if it runs too long I feel your pain!
escobar
yea I hate to leave it. I will get it torn down one weekend if I can summon some help!

escobar
well I have decided to bite the bullet and take the head back off. The misfire is starting to annoy me. The idle is very rough and now with it warming up and the AC running its bad. On a bright note, I found a 2010 with only 24,000 miles on it and bought it yesterday to drive while I fix mine. I'll keep you in the loop as to what I find!

escobar
It is def a tough job in the vehicle, I may end up pulling the engine again. So far Ive got the exhaust manifold, generator, fuel rail, harness and a bunch of other little stuff off in about 3 hours. Gonna see how far I get over the weekend. G B L
Well it all should come apart easy this time. Keep up the good work
escobar
well i def. have a burnt valve. Dis-assembly was pretty easy, no issues at all. Had the cylinder head off in about 5 hours. Ordered all new valves, head gasket, exhaust gasket and head bolts. glad I decided to pull it, it will be nice for it to be right. I think the valve was bent and was sticking. I'll know more once I pull them out. Edited March 20, 2016 by escobar
G B L
Good Job , Pull the bad valve and Lap in the new valve before spending time on the other valves. You can tell if the seat is good by filling the combustion chamber with brakleen, and seeing if it leaks into the exhaust port . If it leaks then you will have to cut the seat. Thanks for the up date. escobar
thanks GBL, good info there. I'll put the valve in the drill and see if its bent when I spin it. Def. gonna lap all them in real good. I'll keep you all updated.

escobar
well, I put everything back together and it fired right up, but the rough idle / miss is still there.I cant believe it. Pretty frustrated right now. Gonna do a compression test and see what it reads. The valve I took out was burnt, but it was not bent at all. What do you think? Im gonna check over everything again, maybe replace the plugs, they looked kinda nasty.
G B L
Did you liquid test the valves? yes the compression test should be done. Is it the same as it was before? Is the miss the same Cyl as before?
escobar
So I did the compression test and I only have 35 psi in the same cylinder now, major problem. I did liquid test the valve that was bad, the guides looked good. I guess I will tear the head back off and just take it to a machine shop and see whats up. Makes no sense, I guess its cursed. G B L
Darn Take a photo when you get it off, Check the Valve Clearance, and see if that is ok. If that was not correct it would leave the valve open. I am in now keep me in the loop,
escobar
I'll take the valve cover off and check the clearances, this engine has no adjustment though, all you can do is replace the cap. That would be cool if thats all it was, I really dont want to pull the head again.
