Bret1197
Anyone else get a heavy fuel smell inside the van upon fill up. I noticed this seemed to happen only when the gas attendant over fills the cap less gas tank. Wonder if this is also related to the recent recall concerning fuel line routing. Anyone? windguy
hard to believe NJ still won't let you pump your own fuel. used to live there until 1984, exit 137. unless you're watching the attendant you have no idea how much extra fuel they are trying to add. I remember reading in the manual with a big warning not to overfill. See below. Do not overfill the fuel tank. Thepressure in an overfilled tank maycause leakage and lead to fuel sprayand fire. A fuel spillage concern may occur ifoverfilling the fuel tank. Do not overfill thetank to the point that the fuel is able tobypass the fuel filler nozzle. The overfilledfuel may run down the drain located belowand in front of the fuel filler door.
bikinchris
Yes, I get the smell. Once, I tried to top off the fuel and it started then. if I don't try to top it off, it is okay.
ncranchero
Likewise. When the nozzle clicks off, out it comes. No smell.
omniphil
I just had this happen the other day and it was one of the few times I went to a self service gas station, and yes, after the initial stop of the pump they tried to pump more in. the next day i had the smell in the van. So the question is, how does the fuel vapor enter the van when its over filled?
Di Andress
Yes, but its only when the NJ attendant tries to overfill the tank........ "It's in your car".... "no a*****e I said DONT ROUND UP!"...... hate those f*****s Edited January 11, 2015 by 103west43rd
Bret1197
Brought it in for the recall on the fuel line routing and found it was kinked. They say thus was the reason for the heavy fuel smell in the van on fill up.....no smell since....although I don't know if anyone has overfilled it yet
EmoMorales
In NJ I get out while its being filled to make sure the guy does not click the handle more then twice. It never happened again after that.
bikinchris
It DOESN'T come from under the hood, so I don't believe the post where the dealer claims the recall was the reason for the fuel smell. I have a bulkhead in my van and the smell is from the back on fillup.
bikinchris
I had a check engine light come on my van. On checking the fault signal the dealer says the fuel filler is causing the fault and they will install a new one. They said they thought that might be the cause of the fuel smell. I will keep you posted.
