Anyone else had a massive back door leak?

My 2014 has the barn doors. I'm getting a massive leak through the rear doors when it rains. The leak comes from the top of the left side door where the vertical weatherstrip on the edge of the door is supposed to seal against the ring of weatherstripping that runs all the way around the entire rear opening. For whatever reason, it lets water through in a torrent right at where the edge of the vertical piece stops. I'm assuming either the vertical seal or the ring seal has gotten old and hard and isn't squishy enough anymore but it costs $350 to fire the parts shotgun and just replace the seals without being sure what the actual problem is.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Has anyone successfully fixed the leak? If so, how?

Are you absolutely sure it's the door seal and not the roof plug that leaks and the water travels back?

Took me a while to figure it out because the leak was completely off the actual plug location that was untight.

Yes, I can put a hose on the roof and watch exactly where it's flowing into the van.

Any damage to the doors?  Are the doors in alignment?  Are you opposed to buying generic rubber weather seals?

No damage to the doors. Doors have good panel gaps but the left-side door (the only with the leak at the top) can fail to latch on the bottom of the door (top always latches) unless you slam it.

I am not sure what to think about aftermarket parts in the Ford world. I've gotten some truly junk parts, like endlinks that lasted only 9 months, when I haven't bought OEM. OTOH, Ford OEM parts prices are insane. So if there's a 3rd party that meets or exceeds the sealing and durability of OEM, I'm open to it. The Subaru world was much better about parts!

For every make & model of car, there are always people who swear that you should only use original equipment from the manufacturer.  I guess those people don't believe in performance parts, or upgrades.  You can buy better tires, brakes, suspension........ even wiper blades.  That's how loud mufflers get on Hondas.  There's nothing wrong with good aftermarket parts.  What you want to stay away from would be a Wal*Mart thermostat or O'Reilly's water pump.

What we're talking about is a strip of rubber which you stick on.  You can buy rubber weather seals and they will be be fine.

Makes me suspect that the doors are out of alignment.  Or there's a problem with the door latches.  Either way, if the door isn't seated correctly, the weather seal is defeated.

Mine also needs a harder slam to latch the bottom but normal, nothing excessive.

Yeah it's not like a crazy full-body windup to get it to latch, just more push than you'd normally use to shut the door quietly/politely.

Hello my test doors leak do bad it's like not having them on I can see outside from the bottom of the left towards the center and on both side st top by the taillights I've tried to adjust both doors but no luck the hinges need replacing I'm thinking be cause they both are bent differently ones straighter them the other Im debating on taking this TC back to the dealer I got ripped first and last time I buy over the internet 2018 180 thousand miles was told no accidents but it's more like major accident paint still on the top tear taillight headlights front grill and doors and fenders you can tell they were painted because derp down you can see primer I've only had it three months and on the way home it started to rain I had to pull over because the wipers were hitting each other found wiper mount not bolted to the car and it popped up and cracked the windshield engine light came on after a week needs cat converter tried cleaning three times no help  battery died the first day I had it bought a new on on my third day owning it tail light and license plate lights were out when I picked up up just bulbs and all my doors leak water and allow dirt to come in front doors don't seal you can hear the road when driving and when parked plus let's all the a/c out or cold weather in I put down a deposit to hold it never telling me it was non refundable plus at was labor day weekend took me over two hours to get there should of only been a forty five minute drive and my ride wasn't happy when I asked to test drive it he days let's do the paper work first it looked different then the picture on the add and the windshield had the price on it that's it the one in the add had four stickers on it and no price plus a white or painted bumper this one I'd black i treated the guy and when I started questioning him on all this I got no answer other then my deposit is non refundable I shut up and new I was took I should of took the four hundred dollar lose I'd be way ahead right now because my alarm doesn't work you can open and door and just the lights come on no found alarm doesn't know that the left door is open you can lock it with it open and no two cherps like when another on is open my glove box worked for two days then fell off because what holds the pins were split down the middle like it had been cut off on the third day me and my dog got sick in over 100 degree weather I had been running the a/ c and there was a smell well after two days being sick I went to where the smell was and the whole right side floorboard was soaked I'm mean press down withy hand on the carpet and here come a puddle of water I started to take it off so it could air out and found a aftermarket tracking device spliced in to the wiring for the radio plus two added fuses for what I haven't check yet and  are live and should be empty fresh air and a/c button on all the time pressing it does nothing and I know the A/C is on all the time I can here it cycling that I have  the tracking device looked new it was clean and on top of all the mold that was under the carpet and matting I emailed the dealership never got a reply also my five year loan he told me I had turned out to be a six year and I paid him two hundred fifty dollars just to transfer the title and smog cert but told me it was to license the TC but I received a renewal notice and went to the DMV I had to  pay the tags this month 325.00 I even asked the guy tags are included right he said yes  I'm do pissed I'm disabled on a fixed budget it took me awhile to save for the down payment I bought this car so that I wouldnt have to spend repairing my 2005 Honda that was better then this one the more I drive the TC the more then things that I notice or actually break today I noticed a really hard ride started noticing it about a week ago but it like no cushion hit a bump and bang hits hard well I looked under and both tear shocks show signs of leaking which I know wasn't there when I bought it and it drove better I'm sure there out of oil it's like patch jobs and there going out  all i've done is spend money on parts and work on this van I was to go visit my nieces and nephew in Texas Idaho and new Jersey but dead battery water leak doors locking me out four times in three days once I didn't know about the self locking but it only works at times plus my key fob just locks and unlocks the doors it doesn't look like the ones on the net for this year and the inside of the ingition switch when you put the key in you can wiggle that around I only have the key and the fob together its loose really loose I was hoping that you guys would share with me on the places you've found to but your parts from  I'm the same way you guys are I want good reliable parts that will last and at a fair price I know they'll be more then the inexpensive over seas parts that don't last as you can tell I'm going to need to buy a lot of parts that's if I have to keep it I'm looking I to that but it doesn't look good if anyone's used the lemon law before and wants to give me some advise that would be great also ive called a couple of people that were on the net and I haven't gotten a call back from either one but in all fairness that could be on me because for a while now I've been dealing with what Ive been told is a virus but after two years and six phones I was told by Metro that  they don't deal with viruses and they're going to unlock my phone so I could go else where about I week later I received a check for just over a dollar for the unused portion of my monthly phone service  Ive been without a phone because of all this stuff bad timing  for them to dump me

Hey that was a massive wall of text with absolutely no formatting that I can't even begin to read.

Can you try that again, using punctuation to split it up into sentences and breaking it up into paragraphs so I can actually read what you want to tell us?

You don't need our help.  You need a lawyer.  Someone sold you a piece of junk.  Maybe they even lied to you.  How did you give this seller a "non-refundable" deposit, and why?  Why would you pay money, for a car you've never seen?  On top of that, they cheated you on the financing.  On what earth can they add 12 more payments to your loan?

I don't know all of the facts.  I don't want to know all of the facts.  But it sounds like you got cheated by an unscrupulous car seller.  Some laws may have been broken.  You need to speak to someone at your local level prosecutor's office to see if they can steer you in the right direction.  And you need to hire a lawyer to see if you can get any money back, nullify the purchase agreement, and/or even nullify the lending agreement.

Is your van still leaking?

Yes, it still is. I've spent a lot of time fiddling with it, waiting for it to rain again, etc.

Aaaand I think I've been chasing the wrong thing the whole time. I found a leak at the top of the doors with a garden hose but I think it's a red herring. While it can leak there, as the hose shows, I don't think in reality that it does. I found another leak where the water running around the vertical sides of the door frame (over towards where the hinges are) is somehow is making it's way between the chassis-side seal and the chassis itself. So I now think that maybe it's not dripping water from the top, it's slowly flooding water up from the bottom. I need to get into the service manual (which is a MESS and hard to use!) and try to find the install procedure for this seal to see if it's supposed to be glued to the chassis or just friction fit. Then I need to redo it.
