2016 TC Cargo Aftermarket Sound System
i86hotdogs replied to i86hotdogs's topic in Audio, Navigation and SYNC
My amp that I own is a 2 channel Kenwood (see link). I think I'll hook the amp to the speakers through the crossover, and wire them to the stock head unit. I can make due without the two 12' subs I have. This is where I fall short in the experience: Where does one mount/install the crossovers? I am guessing I'll install one up near the foot-well on each side. Mount the amp under one of the seats, and hook everything up there. I'll need a line out converter. I know zalienz recommended one, but it looks like way more than I need. Looks like a two channel converter is enough (see second link). I know there is a rubber punch-out near the driver a-pillar to get through the firewall. My power wire will go though there. The hardest part will be figuring out where the speaker and tweeter wires go through the door and pillar. Any more help than that would be appreciated. https://www.crutchfield.com/S-aImQqrUfUJF/p_113KAC7205/Kenwood-KAC-7205.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13698413/JL-Audio-LoC-22.html?tp=2001 -

Your'e a saint for providing these. I already posses a handful of trim removal tools from various experiences. I'll update once things are moving. *eagerly watches the clock waiting for 3:00 to hit* -

So I've got a set of speakers, tweeters, and crossovers coming in today. (link below) The setup seems pretty basic. Crutchfield does a great job of including harnesses and mounting brackets. A deeper dive shows that if I want to hook up the amp and subs I own, I'll need a line converter like zalienz mentioned. That job is a minute away, though. I don't plan on adding those until the weather is warmer, pick up a line converter, and I install a bunch of Kilmat in the rear. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB6502/Polk-Audio-DB-6502.html -
Hey gang, I've been reading up on other forums about people removing their balance shafts on their 4 cyl engines. The benefits claimed is the engine can spin more freely with one less accessory on the drive, leading to a little boost in power, also dropping about 19lbs of weight. Cons include having to deal with some NVH (noise, vibration, harshness). Has anyone on here done it to the TC? Massive Speed System sells a kit that blocks the oil feed to the balance shaft (or where it used to be). See the link below. I've got the 2.5 Duratec, which is also in some trims of the Focus and some Mazdas. Looking at their forums, it's a bag of mixed reviews. Some say yes, others say no. Thoughts? https://www.amazon.com/Balance-Duratec-Cylinder-engines-products/dp/B01JQOM0Z8

WOOO that looks way out of my skill level. But good to know its a possibility! I may have to reach out to shops to get this done. Seems like it will cost the same whether I buy a new head unit and install kit, or take it to a shop and have them install into the stock unit. Decisions decisions... -
I've been eyeing those wheels online. They look amazing underneath a white body. Now I just need to cough up $675 to get me a set...

Those wheels look AWESOME. I've been debating on whether I should drop $600 on a set of white rally wheels, or just paint the steelies. I could barely find any generic photos of white steelies. Seeing them on the van helps, and saves me a buck! Although I do have my eyes set on some gen 1 Taurus SHO slicer wheels. They are the same size as Gen 2 TC's. Guy wants $100 for the set! I'll update once I get them.

I go there for any audio needs. Shopping around I can get a set of decent kicker speakers, tweeters, and crossovers with the proper wiring harnesses and mounting brackets for $100 out the door. They also can assist over the phone with any step by step installation help. -

Good to know, Fifty. Audio and electronics are probably my weakest point in automotive. In the past, I've simply wired in an amp and subs into an aftermarket head unit and called it a day. I was shopping around for 3-way speakers for up front as well. This is why I posted this question to this forum. I am far from an expert on anything! Thanks again for the insight. -

Fortunately, my steering wheel does not have any functions besides the cruise control. I also do not own or desire satellite radio. Therefore those issues will already be dismissed in this job. My apologies, I should have mentioned that in the original post. So I'm going to infer that with my set up, it is possible to keep the factory head unit. Now to find a way to run a wire through the firewall, and get into that dashboard... I have plans later on to insulate the bare walls of the rear in the future. I've already researched a few brands like Dynamat and Hushmat. That, and a long list of other things I would like to do. -
Hello everyone. I am brand new here, and have just recently acquired a 2016 TC cargo. I am sure we all are aware of the mediocre quality of the sound system the factory set up is; so I would like to upgrade it. I have two 12" sub-woofers installed into a wood box, and an Alpine 1000w amplifier that used to be installed in an old vehicle of mine. I have the wiring for everything as well, including the power, ground, speaker, and audio wiring. I do not have an aftermarket head unit. I was hoping there would be a possibility to keep the factory unit installed. Currently looking for direction in this job. Whether it be instructions to disassemble the front dash, or a good place to run the power cable to the battery. I plan on mounting the subs behind the river seats, so the length of wire won't be obnoxiously long. Like I said, any help would be greatly appreciated; and I am looking forward to becoming a part of this community.
