Next-Generation Transit Connect

Recommended Posts

Ford Transit Connect Forum - While the current generation Transit Connect was designed and trailored to cater to the fleet market, the next-geneation T.C. will incorporate a new design, which will have more appeal to retail customers.

This will place the next Transit Connect directly is the cross hairs of such competitors as the Honda Element.

While the upgrade might prove to be a boon for Ford's sales, it shouldn't effect the overall utility of the Transit Connect as fleet version will still be available.

Frankly, without the high roof, why buy this van - where does it have an advantage over more proven vehicles?

Okay, I got it... it isn't as tall, so you won't have the extra room. Yep, no doubt, it will keep all the attention it has from those of us who need a tall vehicle or use it's advantages.

The European version of the Transit Connect has more variants available. There is a short wheelbase (believe it or not, the one we get is the LONG wheelbase), and a regular roof (also a liftgate/hatch instead of the double doors). If you search the net a bit, you'll find there are SWB regular roof models that have dimensions pretty similar to what is shown above. I have no doubt there will be a raised roof, LWB version available. We're just looking at an artist's conception of the proposed styling.

Personally I think if that illustration is in fact indicative of the finished product, Ford is struggling to adapt their new design language onto the boxier vehicles. It's a bit awkward, it actually manages to make the current model look sleek by comparison.

The illustrations above look somewhat like an elongated Kia Soul. At first I was like " Wow!" til I noticed it didn't have a high roof. Not sure how that'll translate once they add that. The current model looks pretty damn cool if you ask me. Surprisingly, I get alot of inquiries from people while I'm tooling around. It certainly has a European edgy look to it. I also do dog rescue on the weekends. For reasons I'm not sure (shorter/taller vs longer/lower), I'm able to out-haul those driving Caravans, Siennas, and Odysseys. For pure utility in terms of LARGE dog crates, nothing compares in the minivan market. Now, if I could just add a 6-speed and and/or 40 more horsepower ;-)
