Exhausting ?

On my newly acquired 2010 transit connect, I found that both the muffler and resonator had large holes in them which made the van very loud. I was shocked at how difficult it was to buy these two parts. Even the Ford dealer said they don’t know when They would them in stock again, apparently this vehicle use a lot of usual parts that were not found in other Ford vehicles. I am located in the United States and I realize this may be different in other parts of the world. Long story short I went online and found a company calls Rockauto.com, and they had everything in stock, gave me the option of aluminized or stainless steel components, and the prices were a fraction of what the dealer wanted. Very happy with the price, turnaround time, and quality from rockauto.com. I also found it interesting, that when joining parts together, traditionally one pipe fits into the other with a standard “U” bolt, not so on the transit, it actually uses a, what I would call, a coupler with two bolts that clamp down onto same size pipes. This is not a normal fitting on USA made cars that I have ever seen I wonder why the system is used compared to the traditional “U” bolt?

The 1st Gen Connects are made in Turkey. The clamping method you describe is widely used in Europe. Not that Turkey would be in Europe but the Connects are designed in Europe..
