Jack
Hello all! I have cracked a piston on my 1.8tdci 2012. I guess due to an injector staying open. Can anyone tell me if I can change the piston from below without taking the cylinder head off? Edited August 9, 2020 by Jack

Jack
Thank you GBL! That’s a bummer! Does anyone know if I have to also remove gearbox and clutch to disconnect conrod from crankshaft? Got a quote for recon engine + fitting from Ford here in France. 12 000€
mrtn
That's ridiculous. Guys in the UK will do that for a fraction of the price. Try sourcing an engine from there and have it fitted by an independent shop locally. Edited August 9, 2020 by mrtn
Jack
Well I’ve spoken to 4 independent garages and they all say that they don’t have access to the software to reset the injection system etc so don’t want to touch it... one even said they had done an engine swap on one of these previously and even they ended up taking to ford... I’m trying to workout if it’s worth doing myself. I was hoping to just shove a new piston in from below, change all the injector and carry on with life. Could any one tell me if I change my piston and put it all back together could I get it going again? ie recode new injectors with forscan And any other setting that might be needed. G B L
If you get the head off and the pan you can get the pistons out . If you put the right piston in it should run fine. Once you have it apart check all the cyl and the injector re-code should be doable .

It’s easier to pull the engine out remove the sump and ladder frame remove all pistons hone the block and fit new rings big end and main bearings and do the chain in the sump
