fordfanatictony
Hello everyone! i need to mount a amber ECCO permanent light LED minibar to the top of the roof of a 2019 transit connect. Is there any way of doing this without drilling ontop of the roof? Feels king of sketchy drilling in the aluminum body. Was hoping that someone has made a mount that can be bolted on to the existing mounts that are on the sides of the roof. If anyone has drilled or installed one is there any suggestions on how to or pictures. Thanks for any help. -Tony
Beta Don
The roof isn't aluminum - It's steel, at least on my 2014 Gen 2 it is You could remove a pair of the plugs in the roof and use those as mounting points and a way to run power up to the light bar. You will probably need to remove the headliner to gain access to the underside of the roof. You'll also need an assortment of steel and rubber washers to 'sandwich' above and below the holes to keep everything water tight Don
Fifty150
It all depends on what kind of light bar you're talking about, and what that particular unit's mounting hardware looks like. If you don't drill holes, then how are you going to run the wiring? You can consider using a light bar with magnets, which is offered by ECCO and other sellers. ECCO BLAZE II VACUUM-MAG 15\" AMBER ROTATING MINI LIGHTBAR - 5135A-VM For permanent installation, you will need to drill holes. If you intend to use the predrilled holes under the plastic caps, then you will need to spec a light bar with mounting brackets which measure the exact same distance. Drill the holes. It's your best option. Silicone, rubber washers, foam rubber seal kits......the light bar itself should include some sort of rubberized mounting base for waterproofing and vibrations since it is designed to be roof mounted. Wiring is not all that hard either. A lot of options there also. fordfanatictony
fordfanatictony
Thank you Fifty150 for the great help. That ECCO is exactly the same think I am installing except in permanent form. Only thing I am wondering since the roof is not 100% a flat surface but rounded and has the drain indentations in it, will the flatness of the ECCO stobe minibar seal properly during install? A ring of silicone, rubber washer, or foam rubber will seal nicely.
Booner
I put a couple of roof vents in my van 2 1/2 years ago. I cut two holes in the uneven portion of the roof, applied silicone sealer between the roof and the base of the vents, and then screwed the vents to the roof. Wiped off the excess silicone. It has never leaked. Edited March 27, 2019 by Booner
Fifty150
In The City at the Corporate Yard, the tech who does bolt on installations tells me that he uses silicone with a washer. Police cars. Fire trucks. Buses. Everything gets a ring of silicone, with a washer on top. Most rooftop mounted accessories have something in the kit which addresses your concern.
