cabin air filter

Ok,

During a recent visit to my local Ford dealership for my scheduled oil change, I mentioned a foul odor coming from the air vents whenever the A/C is first turned on and they told me to change the cabin air filter. Sounded like the logical solution to the problem. So I spent $27.00 and went home to begin the ridiculous task of getting to the location of the filter.

Well, most of you may have already learned that the Transit Connect does NOT have a cabin air filter. I learned of this only after reading many posts but I was curious as to why the dealership did not inform me prior to the purchase.

No big deal...so now I have one. The install took me 10 minutes..very easy. But the OEM filter barely fit in the spot and the plastic cover that must be removed prior to filter installation can not be put back on once the filter is in place.

Oh by the way...I was told not to lose my keys...the machine that cuts the keys is only in Turkey and the cost is in outterspace.

The Transit Connect probably comes standard with the cabin air filter in Europe. They did the same thing with the Focus, it was standard there and then removed for the cars sold in North America.

The top plastic that looks like eggcrate is not meant to go back once you put in the filter, it is simply there as a placeholder.

My TC is a fleet vehicle, and on the maintenance schedule it does call out periodic replacement of the filter (in spite of the fact that it doesn't come with one). I put one in early on, and when the time came up on the maintenance schedule to replace it, they did! Nice.

there was a thread in cabin air filters

can anyone point me to it?

i have looked and can't find it

thanks

silver xlt running great at 13,475

The cabin filter holder is under the passenger side black plastic that sits just at the bottom of the windsheild on the outside of the vehicle. about 8 screws hold it in place. In the filter holder is a peice of plastic that is of the same size as the filter and filled with square half inch holes.. That peice is removed and the filter is install in its place.

Yours has a different key from that one? If not then those keys have been around since the 80's in Euro Fords. Turkey is a n00b.

I went to my dealer and he had no clue! So the part man went into his computer and printed out a blow up showing where it goes. They have them in stock. They are learning about the TC as they go. You can count the numbers here on one hand.
