Has anyone removed the floor extension on a FTC swb 2018 uk??? I'd really like to use the space

Recommended Posts

I'm starting a camper conversion on my Ford Transit Connect swb 2018 UK (I put UK, not sure that makes a difference). I'm at the point of bare bones. I can see the space under the cargo floor behind the seats. I can't see any bolts holding it down, so assuming it spot wealded? Has anyone removed this part of the floor? How easy is it to remove?

US models have a removable cover there because they are all converted from wagon to van. European models have a full floor from factory.

I wonder if that's still the case with the newer ones since they're no longer doing the removal of seats trickery. I guess I'll find out when I open mine up.

The small forward section of the FTC is just spot welded and I was informed not structural. I was advised that drilling through the spot welding to remove the subfloor would be fine. Just to treat bare metal afterwards. Not an easy job but I’m still going to look at getting it removed.

I have a 2019 TC (Canada), and I'm also doing a van conversion (75% completed yay!). I came across the same questioning.

For simplicity, I opted for a quick little cut through the floor, added some hinges and there I had a little door to a "hidden" storage.

I don't have a lot of photos of that part of the build, but there you can see the hole freshly cut (no door yet):
