Brake pads gone at 5000 miles!

I just took my connect to the dealer yesterday due to grinding. I was told my front pads were down to the metal and my rears had about 15% left. Then they tried to tell me it was "normal" wear and tear. What is "normal" about a vehicle with under 5000 miles on it? and, there was a period of 6 weeks last year that i had it parked at a friends house while i traveled. I am a dog walker in SF and probably haul about 250-300 # on average 5 days a week. They have since covered my front brakes under warranty and "reinspected" the back brakes and say they now have 50%. He said he compared them with new brakes and they are "fine". Anyone else have this type of problem?

First, welcome to the forum. I have my share of mutts too :dogwalk:

Unless you're doing some serious/hauling towing and thus require more braking or are on the brakes a lot (San Fran?), I find it odd that the brakes have worn out so quickly on a commercial based vehicle? The stopping power is usually found on the front brakes, unless the TC is different. It's also odd that the back brakes have gone through that much material.

Without trying to sound judgemental, do you brake with your left foot, and, if you do, do you rest your foot on the brake pedal? I've had friends that do, and they seem to go through pads far faster than I ever do.

I'm thinking that perhaps the combination of that, and the famous hills of the Bay area might be the cause.
