windguy
Have any TC owners had their navigation systems updated? I told a friend I was considering a new TC and wanted to get an onboard nav system. He told me I was better off using a stand-alone nav system. He uses his phone. The reason is that the nav system data in his wife's car was outdated and the cost to update it was very expensive. Hundreds of dollars. I would like to find out about this issue before adding this option to my new TC. thanks! Edited May 3, 2014 by windguy
omniphil
Cellphone navigation systems are lightyears ahead the stuff in cars. Google Maps and Waze are really all you need. Now with that being said, cellphones are not always friendly for use in cars, you need some sort of mounting system. So it's really a toss up. I have used the MyFordTouch stuff and compared it directly with Google Maps. For time/accuracy/routing Google Maps wins every time. Having an internet connected device like a cellphone is so much better.

bikinchris
The NAV system in my TC is fine, but if I am really driving and want a good NAV system, I plug in my GPS antenna to my laptop and use Delorme software. My navigator likes it just fine for driving strange roads where you don't want to get lost. I update it every other year or so and using a 17" screen to see where you want to go is much better than a phone screen. omniphil
I am able to update the SYNC software myself from Fords website, I wonder how one would know what version of the Maps one has? I would assume they come out with yearly updates. As a side note, I was able to configure the Ford Nav for Canada over the weekend, it wasn't intuitive but once we found the option we were able to get to our hotel in Montreal since our cellphones have no signal up there.
