David F
Hello i've had my van since 2005. It was bought as an ex demo from the local main dealer. At that time I was a freelance gardener. Subsequently I worked in factory for some years, so the van has had fairly light use. It's "only" got 50K on it now, so its not had too much wear. Likes; the central locking is very useful! Bit of bottom end torque which the intercooler gives (over the previous escort). Sound body....no real signs of rust. Good turning circle. instant starter apart from if I flatten the battery. Van convenience.....chuck it in the back...plus it's fairly secure. Not so good; A bit gutless for over taking ...I think 75 bhp is about it; economy no more than 40mpg which by modern standards isn't earth shattering. The radio is complete rubbish (don't use it anyway) . Sit up and beg position (the escort was much better. The boards in the back creak a lot as the body flexes...the sealant has eroded and needs redoing. Me? I'm 49 and 11/12s.....yes I know. I'm trying to forget it. Interests include old buildings, loosing some weight, gardening when the weather is nice, photography, paranormal club, my folks as time goes on, reading, hifi, wood turning, recently drawing (enjoy to my amazement). mrtn
You being in UK, take advantage of Vantuner's mail in ECU remapping service, you'll get plenty of extra punch out of the 75. I think it can be remapped to 95 hp or more.
David F
Thanks but what about ins? No into modding without saying anything, that's asking for trouble. How much is it?
mrtn
Wasn't expensive at all, don't remember how much exactly. Find out here: http://vantuner.co.uk/ Doesn't affect insurance as it is not detectable. The modification is nothing to be worried about as the same engine is used in Focus in higher HP setting. It's detuned for the Transit Connect for whatever reason, I guess insurance.
