Something like this......But paint it white to match the color of the van. The make a kind that doesn't sit up as high on the roof, like the kind you sometimes see on the side of a UPS truck. In my full sized fan it didn't matter so much how high the vent sat up off the roof as the full size van was tall. But for the shorter TC i'd like it to be flusher to the roof.

I think I'm going to install two of these roof vents on my TC. I had two of them along with a Fantastic fan on my full size van and never had a problem with them leaking ( the vents), Plus they're reversible, meaning you can open one facing from and the other facing the rear which helps with ventilation. I have at '15 TC and the Fantastic fan is too high on such a short vehicle. A drill, saber saw and some silicone glue is all you need to install them, oh, and the gonads to cut holes in your vehicle. Still not sure what to do about installing windows in the sliding doors. Maybe this next year you can get them aftermarket.

You West-Coasters always want to slam things (I admit it would look cool). I'd like a little more ground clearance for some of my outdoor activities. 6 inches ain't enough. (that could be interpreted in so many ways) -

Is he asking about rigid foam with a fail backer? It's such an old post we'll probably never know, but I'd mount the foil against the roof and use spray on contact glue (applied to the roof and the foil, if you get it on the foam the solvents in the spray may eat the foam. Also you can usae a product called "reflectsit" (I think thats the name) it has foile on both sides with an interior that looks like bubble wrap, Again, applied with contact cement. The R factor isn't that high, but anything you use for inselation is better thatn the bare metal.

Windguy, I'll be happy to post my progress with pictures, because if you don't have pictures it didn't happen. I retire at the end of March, and moving to Missouri (family is there + cheaper cost of living), and I'll start the build out sometime in April/May. In my youth I've converted several vans to mesh with an alternative lifestyle and am looking forward to working on the connect. My last van was a 3500 gmc with fridge, microwave, powered sink, bed/couch and two deep cycle batteries that would not only power everything in the van, but my house too if I lost power. The real challenges with the transit is with using space to it's maximum benefit and the lack of information. I think I'll feel like a pioneer in some ways, but it'll probably look like some of the others conversions seen on the 'nett. I'd also like to make the bed/couch and cabinets modular in that I could take them out if I needed a cargo van again. Like my GMC, it'll probably never get done, but always be a work in progress, I'm too busy now getting my house in Colorado ready to sell, and moving stuff to Missouri to do anything on it, so at this point I'm just gathering ideas and doing a lot of thinking on how I can do things. regards, Booner

I've got a couple of deep cycle batteries I'm going to locate at the very back of the cargo area on the left side under the bench/bed. They'll be running a refrigerator, microwave, sink, lighting etc. I retire this April and will start my mini camper, deluxe road trip vehicle build out then. I've got to figure out how to run my 4 gauge lines from the battery back to the left rear of the cargo area where it will connect to my charge controller . These are normal wet cell batteries so I need access to them for maintenance reasons. I was driving through Kansas City last month and the car in front of me kicked something up and I ran over what ever it was. It hit my gas tank and the belly pan (which seems like it's nothing more than thick aluminum foil), was ripped off from the gas tank. Given the 6 inches or so of ground clearance these trucks have I don't think I'd want to put Aux. batteries under the vehicle and especially not right next to the gas tank.

I've got about 500 miles on my TC. Took a nice drive up into the mountains a few days ago and my average was around 32 MPG. This is according to my Scan Guage II which I took out of the van the TC replaced. I'm very happy with the TC

Convert my Transit Connect to camper

Welcome to the forum. I just purchases a 2015 XT last week and this spring I'l be turning it into a camper/deluxe road trip vehicle. My TC is replacing a full size van that was totaled last month, so I took the Marine batteries, microwave, refer, stereo, etc. out of my old van and will be installing them in the TC. I'm retiring in April and moving to Missouri, so my modifications won't take place until I get set up in MO. I would really like to see what ideas you and others have come up with. I've spent the better part of two days just staring at the interior of the TC and going over build outs in my mind; planning is 1/2 the fun of doing the project. But remember, if you don't take pictures-it didn't happen! Regards, Booner -
Thank you for the welcome. I just purchased my 2015 TC last week and have around 500 miles on it. The only modification I've done so far is to put a Scan Guage on it. (taken off the vehicle it replaces). If I have the scan guage set up correctly, I'm getting 32 MPG on the highway!!!!! It sure beats the 14 mpg I got with my full size van. Next spring I'll be making several modifications to the truck as I turn it into the ultimate road trip/camper.
