  1. Everything I've read said that harness doesn't work for the 2014, so how it works for you is even better than I thought it would (although still not great). Per the recommendation from Axxess support, I cut the yellwo wire in the factory harness and that fixed the backup camera problem in the original 4" screen, but I'm not able to update the date & time! I took a break from car troubleshooting for a while, but I'll need to figure that out. I don't know if i can adjust that with FORSCAN or if I'm going to have to rig something with the original radio controls, which I kept for just that purpose.
  2. Thanks to help from the good folks in this forum, have successfully replaced my old broken OEM AM/FM/CD stereo with a touchscreen aftermarket stero. I used the Metra 99-5831G body kit which keeps the original 4" screen for the backup camera. However, as others have mentioned in this forum, Even with the correct wiring harness and connections on the body kit, the OEM backup camera stops working reliably. Other members have mentioned that disconnecting the passenger airbag indicator resolves the issue, although that causes the airbag fault indicator to show up when you start the car. I wasn't wiling to accept both the loss of the backup camera or the airbag fault warning, so I called Metra to see if the had a solution. Their recommendation was to "cut the yellow wire" on the 6-pin connection to the airbag indicator light on the Metra body kit. He seemed pretty confident, so I went along with it even though it seemed like a strange solution. However, it worked like a charm. I peeled back a bit of the wrap on that group of cables to expose more of the yellow wire, cut it, and wrapped the ends in some electrical tape. Now the backup camera feed comes on the 4" screen every time. My only problem now is the head unit stopped connecting to our phones via android auto/carplay, so I have to exchange it for a new one. Here is some more info of the stuff I used for someone like me who was trying to figure this out: Stereo: BOSS Audio Systems BVCP9700A Wiring Harness: XSVI-5524-NAV NOTE: Even though my card didn't come with navigation and the new stereo doesn't use navigation, I still needed this version because I had the AM/FM w/ CD player. If you just have an AM/FM w/o CD you have to use Metra 70-5524 which has a different power connection. This interface includes a connection to the parking break wire, so no fancy wiring or work-arounds required to get around the parking break connection requirement your aftermarket stereo might have. This wiring harness has a connection to steering wheel controls that I'm not using, so I just didn't connect that to anything. Antenna adapter: Metra 40-EU10 Antenna to Radio Adapter Body Kit: Metra 99-5831G I used these heat-shrink butt connectors to make the wiring connections: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B099JGZD3D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Where possible, you can find things cheaper than buying retail. I got both the body kit and wiring harness off ebay for a significant discount. Also, don't hesitate to call the manufacturers for support. Metra and Boss support have been very helpful in figuring this stuff out.
  3. Don, How did you manage to keep the backup camera working? I have a 2014 and I have the same problem now that I have installed the aftermarket stereo with the Metra body kit - every thing is plugged in but the the backup camera in the original 4.2" screen only works once in a while. I haven't unplugged the airbag indicator becaus I don't want to have to go to the dealer to reset the error message, so I don't know if that will let the backup camera work. If you got it to work reliably, I'd love to know how.
  4. So I got this wiring harness, and it powered up just fine. https://axxessinterfaces.com/product/XSVI-5524-NAV There is something different about the wiring in TC's with the base CD player that requires that harness. Thankfully I got it used so I still didn't pay $50 for it. Everything is looking good, but now I want to see if I can integrate the stock backup camera into the new head unit, because I can't reliably get the little screen to show the back-up view now. Anyone have suggestions for that? Thanks, Jake
  5. @Jseda I compared my plug with your plug, and I don't have the cables labelled #4 and 5 in your photo: I think that's my problem and why I need the different wiring harness.
  6. I don't have a multimeter, uforutnately. This is all very new to me.
  7. Ah, then I think they're right then. I'm going to have to get a fancier harness (and unclip all these damn wires).
  8. @Jseda , was your original radio only AM/FM, or did you have the CD player as well? I called Metra support (who made the adapter) and they said if you have a CD player then you need the more expensive wiring harness (XSVI-5524-NAV). I don't see that many things to connect to in my car though.
  9. The Yellow is supposed to be the "12 Volt Battery/Constant" (it's labelled that way on the adapter), and the red one (not the fiesta one) is labelled "Ignition/switched 12V+"
  10. Sorry - i didn't get hte top side of the car plug - I can get a shot of that later.
  11. I finally got around to connecting everything, but when I turned the car on the stero didn't power up. I matched all the wires between the adapter and the stereo and crimped them, but I'm wondering if something is off. I noticed that the adapter I got (Metra 70-5524) has two red wires - one of which is marked "2011 Fiesta only". If that was mis-labelled, that might explain the problem. Alternately, the stereo might be a dud, but tha's harder to check. The support tech from the radio manufacturer said that you can actually test that by touching a couple of cables (the red and yellow I think) to the battery terminals and using the ground as well to see if the radio starts up, but that's a pain in the ass on the Transit because the negative terminal is stuck way back under the windshield and hard to access (p). lus that sounds a little scary). Here is the connection from the car: And here is the wiring harness adapter: Any suggestions?
  12. That looks great! Did you incorporate the stock backup camera into the new head unit? I got a smaller Boss unit that fits right into the dash, so I should still be able to use the existing small screen for that.
  13. I just ordered all my parts, if I get stuck I'll post pictures here. What kind of stereo did you install? I'm trying a touchscreen one that supports android auto but with wires. Looks like I'll need to have those connections coming through the panel, i'm wondering if you had to deal with that too.
  14. That's great - I found a similar one on amazon. Did you have to mess with the pins at all? From what I've read, it looks like it will all line up as long as you match what each wire dooes (regardless of the colors in use). Thanks!
  15. @Jseda, So did you use the Metra 70-5524 adapter in stead of the expensive wiring harness recommended by Metra? The radio on my TC (basic AM/FM) is toast, and for what it would cost to replace the stock stereo it looks like I'd be able to get a nicer touchscreen if I do it myself. I've never done this before though, so the wiring is a bit intimidating.
  16. I will absolutely DM you about this, because that's pretty fortuitous. Although, with how easy it was to get at the radio I'm tempted to see if I could swap it out for something nicer, if I'm going to go through the effort. Did you replace yours with something aftermarket?
  17. @Don Ridley this is super helpful. I'll give it a shot and let you know if I get stuck.
  18. I finally got around to pulling out the radio - came out just like the videos showed. I'm pretty sure there's not APIM here. Here's what I found: DT1T-18K811-CD 14-16 FORD TRANSIT CONNECT RADIO CONTROL PANEL DT1T-19C107-AD - CD/Radio unit I attached some photos. I don't see anything other than the radio and the screen, unless I'm missing something here. There's also an empty socket on the radio, so I assume that's where the APIM would plug in if it were available. I'm guessing I could just try swapping out the radio unit, right? They'r easy enough to find on ebay.
  19. I just found this video showing how to remove the radio, and it looks easy even for me. I think I'll give this a shot to see if I can identify the parts. Thanks for all the advice, it's EXTREMELY helpful!
  20. @windguy is that the same or similar diagnostic software that the dealer would use? Right now I have an appointment to pay almost $150 just to pull the radio out to see what tht part number is. If they could get that info from the software that should hopefully be cheaper
  21. Plot twist - the parts guy at the dealership I usually go to says maybe my car doesn't have an APIM because it doesn't come up when he looks for the part under my VIN, so now we're back to needing to open the radio to see what the part number is. He also said that you can't buy the APIM third-party because it's programmed by Ford, which doesn't sound legit but sounds like it's a business practice that a car company would undertake.
  22. A guy from a salvage yard on ebay said that there's three different versions of it that come with the radio for my card - it might actually be cheaper to buy all three to see which one works and then resell the ones that don't.
  23. I talked to the dealer, and it seems like even they can't tell me what part it is without taking it out of the car first and seeing the part number. Seems like a convenient way of ensuring you can only get this fixed by the dealer with new parts.
  24. @Delmar did you ever figure this out? My 2014 Transit has the same exact radio (no SYNC) but the dealer says my APIM is fried so the radio doesn't work. I'm struggling to figure out what part I need to replace, since every reference I find for the APIM includes SYNC.
