Center high mount third brake light issue.... after led install?

Recommended Posts

So quick resume on myself, I've been installing mobile electronics for decades.....multiple tvs, dvd, gps (before smart phones)... diagnosed electronic bugs in cars to semi trucks.....etc.etc...so I'm very familiar with findings shorts.

So here is what I did, I switched my brake light bulbs to LED in the taillights and noticed my third brake light on the roof stopped working.....OR maybe it's been out the whole time? Anyone else have this issue? It will flicker if I tap it....... I think I'm buying a new assembly.

2016 SWB

Thanks, Adam

Probably a bad light or connection. The third brake light is an LED so it can have intermittent failure unlike an incandescent light.

I changed my brake lights to LED without any issues. I eventually switched back to incandescent bulbs because I think they are brighter due to the tail light housing and reflector design.

That happened to me , the problem was the male pins solder to the board assembly,  I did a hole I the plastic close to the pins and soldered it back to the board and no problems so far....!

Hi, my high mount stop light is out and I was wondering if you could elaborate on where you drilled on the light and how that procedure went. I solder things professionally so I'd be comfortable tackling this with more info... Do you mean the light side connector pins? pins from the LED's? Thanks.

Thanks. I sealed it up and reinstalled until the replacement arrives. I believe the issue is the connector pins since the light briefly came on when it was wiggled. I decided to purchase a new unit from rockauto since the housing appeared to be cracked where the clear section meets the black plastic. I can post pics and experiment once I have replaced the light.
