Baldrick1953
A bit chilly round these parts of late minus 5 etc… ive got a 2006 Connect with the 1.8tdci 90 horse engine. it’s quite difficult to start in cold conditions…. Starter motor , glow plugs and battery are all nearly new….and I replaced fuel and air filters recently. what else can cause this cold start problem please?? if I cycle the Glows 2 or three times it fires up but is quite lumpy for a few secs…. The usual sound effects but quietens down when warm….
G B L
-5 C? well If you have access to electrical power then a block heater would be the easiest .As the engine wears there is less cold compression and it takes more time for the glow plugs to heat the cylinders . What is the cycle time of the glow plugs? Cycling the glow plugs several time when it is cold is not a bad thing, do it be for you crank the engine the first time in the morning.
