Mozer67
2016 TC/XL. Even with the selector switch in the middle on the dome light, it will not come on when I open drivers door?! Only when I unlock with remote or open sliding door (both sides) will it come on. Any help appreciated.
Don Ridley
Unfortunately the door light switch is part of the latch mechanism. It's difficult to troubleshoot. You would need a scan tool of Forscan to check the switch status when you open the door and proceed from there. Wiring diagrams are also needed. Mozer67
Thanks Don. What Forscan scan tool do you suggest? Does it work along with an OBD2 code reader, or? Thanks again for your help.
Don Ridley
Forscan is a free program that runs on a Windows PC. It communicates to the vehicle using an ELM-327 adapter. Forscan is discussed in details on this and many other Ford forums. What's new (forscan.org) The basic function of Forscan is to read trouble codes (DTC) and detailed operating parameters (PID). Forscan is a good scan tool and it works very well. Advanced functions allow programming or configuration changes like adding cruise control and require an "extended license". Advanced functions require some patience and some important research into how things work. You can brick your vehicle if you are not careful. Buy an adapter recommended by Forscan, especially if you ever plan on making configuration changes. If you plan on doing most of your TC's maintenance and troubleshooting you must have a scan tool. ELM327-compatible adapters - how to choose - FORScan forum Before you do anything, try opening the driver's door with the engine running. You should get a message about the door being open. If not, then the latch is not sending the door open signal to the BCM and you probably need a new latch. Forscan will allow you to see the status of the door switch and hundreds of other analog signals and switch states (on/off) in the TC. edit: If you buy a bluetooth adapter you can use a smartphone and the Forscan Lite app to read data easily as you drive. The app can't make programming changes. Edited December 1, 2021 by Don Ridley Forscan Lite info
Mozer67
Don, I did the engine running truck and it does not show the door being open on the dash and the dome light does not come on so I’m thinking it’s the part you mentioned. By the latch, do you mean the actuator or are those two different parts? I just ordered a OBDLink MX+, they had pretty good reviews. Thanks so much for your help. Don Ridley
The problem may be in the driver door latch. See the attached wiring diagram. You can remove the door panel and measure the voltage at the door module to see if the signal changes. You can also crawl under the glove box and measure the signal at the BCM. Forscan will show if the BCM is seeing the door latch status change. Here is more information on how to remove the door panel: door module.pdf
Alfanut
Great info. The driver door on my TC does not fire off interior lights, warnings or turn off the radio. If you replace the driver door latch do you have to reprogram anything? Michael Williams 2014 XLT
Don Ridley
No programming needed.
