Is there a way to keep my battery from dying, from having back doors open a lot?

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I have a 2011 Transit Connect "wagon." My battery has gone low twice now from apparently having the back doors open a lot. I have a RightLine Gear SUV tent attached to the back (am camp hosting for the season), and will need to have the doors open a lot. Is there something I can do on this specific TC to fix this that won't mess up the battery or anything else? A kill switch on the battery? Just remove the negative terminal on the battery when I won't be going anywhere for awhile?

If you leave the door open, the parking lamps stay on.  But they do go off.  They don't stay on forever, right?  So for those few minutes that the parking lamps stay on, your battery drains?  It sounds like you should check your battery to see if it needs to be replaced.  Or check your alternator to see if it's putting out enough of a charge.  A 2011 is a 10 year old van.  Perfectly reasonable to replace wear items with time.
