tansitocanada
Hello fellow TC fanatics! I was driving yesterday listening to music over a USB stick via sync audio. I heard a distinct pop sound which was startling and my audio completely failed. Moreover, while there is power to the head audio unit, the only access I have is to changing clock and language settings. The buttons for the audio/radio/sync are no longer illuminated as well. I have checked the sync fuse in the passenger fuse compartment (F67 7.5A) to no avail. I have read about fuse F37 under the steering wheel but it could not remove the outermost panel under the steering wheel, appears I need a torx bit to remove? All other electronics in my TC are functional. Thank you in advance for any help, I’ve searched the forum but cannot find enough detail related to my issues to fix. I will update this guide to help others if someone assists me. Update: Approximately 6 cycles of ignition and 22 hours after the audio totally failed, my radio turned when I cycled my ignition back to on and everything is working like it should. I’m perplexed by this but have seen it before in other vehicles it just took a day for the system to reset. Grateful for feedback from anyone. Don Ridley
The APIM module runs SYNC. Yours may have sensed a fault and shut down. Maybe it took a while for the module to reset...? You can force a reset on all modules by disconnecting the battery for about 10-15 minutes. If you have a scan tool you can read the DTCs that were triggered by the event. Otherwise, just wait for it to happen again and pull the codes. FYI, DTCs are not check engine light codes and you need a real scan tool, not the ones you can borrow from the auto parts store.
