2019 Transit Connect XL Engine Coolant Over Temperature

Here's another ongoing problem with this vehicle which happens everyday with two times in the shop and the dealer is unable to fix it:

Engine temperature gauge goes up all the way to high temp and  "Engine Coolant Over Temperature" warning appears on the screen - most of the time the warning does not lock in however there have been times when it did lock in and I had to "acknowledge" it.  For whatever reason the dealer has not replaced any parts such as the thermostat or sensor which brings me to a question:  is the coolant high temp detected through an ECT sensor or through a cylinder head temperature sensor or something else ?

I'm not sure about the 2019, but I had a similar issue with my 2015 TC XLT incorrectly reporting an overheat event. I posted about it here. In summary, water had collected inside the cylinder heat temperature (CHT) sensor's connector, presumably shorting the terminals and causing the computer to think the low resistance equated to a high temperature.

Update:

This problem could not be corrected so I used the Lemon Law; long story short Ford performed a repurchase and I was able to obtain a new Transit Connect (there was a process that included a little luck).

I also have this issue. It is intermittent, but happening more often. Dealer wants to charge $160 just to diagnose.

What year van, how many miles?

Are you outside your warranty coverage?
