Dbrianson
I had to lower the sub frame on my 2013 transit connect. I removed the lower steering bolt as I was supposed to but when I dropped the subframe, instead of the steering shaft separating from the steering rack, the splined upper portion separated. I have since removed the shaft from the steering rack but I cant for the life of me get the splined shaft back into the column. It looks to be keyed and I think I've found the marks but I'm not sure if this thing was pressed on or what. It had grease on the splines so I assumed it was meant to move in and out. The splined shaft seems to be made of plastic. Any Input is appreciated.
Dbrianson
So I got it back in. I had to pull the column to get the splines started. Once you lightly tap them the first 1/4" in they just slide in. That first 1/4" is a mother when the column is still attached.
G B L
The plastic coating is to allow assembly with out grease. The downside is it makes the assembly harder. Quite the project what was the purpose of dropping the sub frame?
Dbrianson
I dropped it to replace the stabilizer bar bushings. Also, not fun.
