robertmcclain
Does anyone know how to remove the rear speaker covers in a 2011 XLT wagon? I mean the speakers that are mounted near the roof? It looks like they snap on and off, but I don't want to start prying on them and do damage. When I get the covers off the next step will be to shop for better speakers with some bass. hands2u
I have the TC XLT which has the walls covered w/ the grey skin. Its easy to take the rear speakers off - just lightly pop the inner circle and that exposes you to the screws (starbit). I'm not sure of the quality of those speakers - seems like a big magnet w/ 35 watts. I was thinking of replacing them w/ better speakers but will prob install an amp instead to give the existing radio a boost. Good luck. Tranzy
I replaced mine with 5 1/4 inch JBL, and what a difference with the stock radio. Now I'm going to replace the door speakers.
Basswood
Somewhat belatedly here is some info on this topic. On my model the speakers are removed by first removing the protective "screen". Removing this reveals the screws to remove the bezel - you will have to have a torx drive as I remember(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torx). After removing the bezel you will see the speaker attachment screws, also torx. Removing the speaker then only leaves disconnecting the Ford specific connector. I have attached photos of this process. I replaced both the door speakers and the rear speakers with the following from Crutchfield: 158GT1327A Sony XS-GT1327A 5-1/4" 2-way Speaker 113KFC1362 Kenwood KFC-1362 5-1/4" 3-Way Speaker Crutchfield supplies the speaker connector adapter. (as well I replaced the head unit with a MP3 capable model)
