cdiesel
8/17/2011 update: 2,000 MILES AND STILL IN LOVE. 800 mile trip through Finger Lake Region New York and very comfortable. Saw only 2 others on 6-day trip (white and red) passenger use and a few other working trucks. MPG's stuck at 25 - 26 @ 75mph I have removed the back seats and will fit it for my 1964 BMW R27 and post photos later - stay tuned smaller m/c owners. Step up on the rear door opening and inspect your roof mounted 3rd brake light. Inspect the rubber mount under the light unit- make sure it fits flush with the metal roof or you might have water leaking into the interior Installed the FORD micro air inlet filter for the air conditioning The filter needed a little cutting at the side so it would fold into the inlet box frame. I kept the square meshed plastic screen ontop of the paper filter to add security against tiny animals and to hold the filter inplace. Need to search for a charcoal filter which eliminates odors. A "odor" filter is listed in the FORD PARTS catalog but not available. They only offer a plain white paper element.I found the filter informationby searching and this seems to be a issue with the FOCUS - not being istalled at the factory for some reason??? When you look at the inlet in the TRANSIT you'll be worried about the ease of junk like leaves, mice, entering the interior with nothing filtering or blocking entry. You find this opening under the passenger firewall trim screen in the engine compartment. Just took delivery of my 2011 Transit Connect ( TC ) Wagon XLT and I'm very impressed! I worked for Mercedes-Benz for 19 years, and for the last 21 years with BMW. The asseembly, and hardware is as good as BMW's. I even have full voice command of entertainment, Bluetooth which is only available in BMW's at DOUBLE & TRIPLE the price! Fit and finish is excellent. I can't find any flaws in the assembly or the dealers prep for delivery. Absolute bargain. I have had an attraction ever since seeing their introduction here. My need is for loading a vintage BMW (1964 R27) motorcycle. The van that this replaced was a vintage 1987 Plymouth Voyager with 2.5ltr. mitsubishi 4-cyl. This is identical in all measurements with the bonus of higher ceiling. And all of the present day digital electronics, fuel management, ABS, and Roll control. A honey of a mini truck. I hope this helps anyone shopping, researching, or on the fence about buying. The driving is solid, straight, unruffled over rough pavement. I drive it gently and don't expect it to prove it's 0-60mph test times. It's about transporting, camping, enjoying the journey in a stylish little truck with a BIG additude. Thinks it's a Sprinter?! If I want to travel FAST - I drive my motorcyles or the 2002 325xit BMW I'll post photos later. UPDATE: 26 MPG on local back roads stop'n go. great handling great brakes no engine braking - just keeps rolling needing more braking- possibly why some have complained about front brake pad life? really needs tiny bit of gas pedal for town driving. Willie
Stick around awhile. You will certainly find something to complain about here!! Seriously, I agree 100 percent. (Except that I ride Triumph.)
Transit Connect Guy
I agree with the fit and finish of the Transit Connect. It is of high standards. Any quality issues is usually vendor related? I test. Drove over 15 TC's and found nothing wrong with them? Only the radio needs to be more powerful.
hollowwood
I am just going past 500 miles with the 2012 TC-XLT Prem. Wagon that we waited over 6 months for delivery. There were times during that wait when we had second thought as to wondering if the wait would be worth it. Glad to say that it was. First impressions are positive. My likes: Wide flat side windows are great for looking out for oncoming traffic when entering an intersection. Electric windshield defroster work great for getting a fast start on a cold icy morning. Low angle of view for the road ahead make foggy weather driving safer. The fog light work well also. Windshield wipers cover almost the entire windshield. Washer spray works fine which means they may have corrected them from a previous owner's complaint. The rear washer I need to aim higher. Driving this TC is just plain Fun! Quick and nimble with a solid feel. I found I had a silly grin on my face but my back road driving had a frown on my mate in the passenger seat! She also enjoyed the driving feel. We have had to find new places for the every day things that were not the same as the Venture Van this TC replaces. We have the right side read seat folded up to allow our Basset Hound space to get in. We also put the laundry baskets, and rubbish barrels in that space. We push them to the rear.A small trash container goes between the front two seats at the back of the console. A short bungy cord between the head rest post holds a role of paper towels. This also keeps the dog in the back seat. The kleenex, which used to be on the floor in front of the console of the Venture, now is located in the overhead shelf. I turned it side ways with the tissues coming out under the net. The only negative so far is the bucket seat. The left side puts pressure on my leg. I have this problem with all of the bucket seats and just need to find a small pad to boost my butt up a bit. We have not had the loud road noise that others have had, even with snow tires all around. We have the Premium Wagon and the extra side wall covering may help. We have the newer CD/Mp3 radio but the speakers are still weak. That is our first impressions. So far so good!
