Welshdean
I've not long bought a connect tddi 2004 and it used to have an isolator on the vehicle. I wanted to get rid of this as I couldn't even get into the van without using the isolator key first and had to keep inputting the radio code every time I turned it off. So I disconnected the isolator in the hope it was just for extra security measures. Went out to start the van the next day and the battery was Dead. So I then decided to disconnect the hands free kit and ripped it all out including the fuses in a hope that was causing the drain. Again, went out to start it this morning and still dead. The only thing I've got left as an extra on the van is a powered extractor fan, but it only operates when the switch on the dash is pressed. Can it still draw power even if the switch is not on? If not then what could be draining my battery all the time ? I've had the battery checked and it's all good. As much help here would be much appreciated. mrtn
Do you have access to an ampermeter (any multimeter will do) to measure how much is being drained? The amperage will guide you to it. Is there an AC inverter somewhere?
Welshdean
I'm not vehicle savvy mate and I wouldn't know where to check with a multimeter, never used one. The vehicle doesn't have aircon in it
mrtn
OK, I'll be a more specific: by AC I mean alternating current, the inverter I meant is a DC (direct current, 12V your car produces) to AC device so you can have a "wall outlet" in your car to use power tools etc. There's probably some accessory like the inverter there which the key switch was for. Welshdean
There is a small cigarrete lighter socket, a mini version just above the rear door on the inside. Is this what you mean. I have no idea where that's going to as the other person decided to fibre glass all of the sides and floor in the back. Could this possibly be the drain
mrtn
I mean there's a wall socket somewhere, not the cigarette plug. Usually it's a device like this and it may be hidden somewhere and switched on all the time:
Welshdean
How would I know if there's one of them placed into the van somewhere if I'm unable to see it mate as surely the wall socket has to be visible to allow access to plug anything in
mrtn
Exactly. Look for the inverter and/or wall socket.
Welshdean
There's no wall socket visible so I doubt that there's one been in there. Do they usually have the mini lighter sockets on the back ?
mrtn
Yes, mine has one over the rear wheel well.
