Accelerator lag

Has anyone experienced a slight delay in the accelerator pedal mostly in the morning, or if the TC sits for a few days?

This is something new that is happening to my TC...

I am also having to keep my A/C running on high most of the day...yes, I know it's only 95 degrees outside, but driving on the highway for several hours, I shouldn't have to keep it on high all the time. (not in stop and go traffic either)

If anyone else is having issues like this, please post them...I want to make sure it's just not my Turkish Van

just look over your shoulder at all the metal and glass you have..... want it colder hang a curtin behind the front seats or

insulate the sliding doors and the rear of the bus and thing will improve

Wow....did you think of that yourself? Sounds like a dandy idea if you're Griswald.

Thanks for your input, but I think I'll ask the dealer to check things out. Even a cheap truck like the TC should have a decent air conditioner...oh wait, it was made in Turkey.

JK,

Griswald I'm not, but just a thought (or maybe a question), as I'm in similar heat through the day. If I don't keep the "recirc" button on, I notice a BIG difference in the coolness.

I know that yours is a darker one isn't it? That doesn't help much. Did you tint the windows up front? One of the first things I noticed was that the windshield is huge and driving into the sun is a little like sitting in an oven.

I've thought of all the things I could do to keep heat to as much of a minumum as possible.

I started out to just have the front door glasses tinted, but thought it out and had the sliders and back door windows done with the same stuff. It seems to help the heat rejection a good bit. I also found out (but did not have it applied) that there is a "nearly clear" film made for windshields that is mainly for heat rejection. I am still kickin' that idea around. There are two variants of this stuff, and they are both a bit pricey. It may be worth it.... I just need to save the money up to do it I guess.

I pulled the rear mat and put a double layer of "jute" insulation under it, then carpeted a piece of 3/4" plywood and put it over the floor (mat included) - it also seems to help and makes it a bit more quiet too. I still have not done anything with the interior rear section (inner quarters), rear, or sliding doors. That is coming soon. The other piece I want to do is to drop the headliner and put some of the aluminized bubblewrap on the inside of the roof. I used it to do the ceiling in my closed in Florida room and it helped alot, I would think I'd get a similar result in the van.

I would like to get some more of the "jute" insulation and do the front floors under the carpet. I think that will help too. I used the leftover sections on the backside of the front door trim panels. This stuff also seems to help with heat rejection a little.

I certainly share your concerns over the A/C, but know that when there is nothing between you and the sun other than an uninsulated metal box, it tends to retain and absorb heat quite well. The only other thought I had is that when I am running on the highway at 75 plus, I notice the A/C drops off when you accelerate, especially when you're in a headwind situation. (I guess they do that so you CAN accelerate?)

If you have the A/C checked and there is a problem, these things may not be something you'd consider, but if it checks out to be OK, it could be an option. About the color... I REALLY wanted a silver one, but Blue was the second choice. Oddly enough, I ended up with white.... 'cause it was "white, or walk" when the car burned up. Kinda not fun.

Keep us posted and good luck!

Hey Roland,

Good tips....I've done all that except for adding jute. The Recir. option is indeed the best way and is used 100% of the time. My only question was: is anyone having A/C issues? I found it to be less than normal for the A/C to have to work so hard. I've had larger vans in the past...no issues. That's it.

No need for additional comments...seems like an isolated issue.

Have your dealer check it to see if there is a problem. Maybe a line got pinched or something. Any restriction creates inefficiency in cooling, and stranger things have happened. Just went through the restriction route on the wife's car - a hose with a problem... New hose, problem over. (Could have had something to do with the woman who tried to park her CRV on the hood of the car. It didn't fit.)

On the lag in acceleration (forgot that) - I notice that there are times where pressing the pedal to a point that goosed it before, sometimes it feels like it is holding back, then the ZIPPO DRIVE comes in, and winds the rubber band up to a high number, resulting in it sounding like I'm trying to win a race that isn't happening. That is a "sometimes" thing. I also notice an idling issue at times - it will almost feel as though its going to stall, then it bumps itself up to about 1000 RPM and settles back to an idle in a few seconds. Darn V8s..... I got spoiled!

Unfortunately, the TC having a Focus engine means it also shares some AC components with the Focus, the compressor being one of them. I don't even want to think about the square footage differences between the Focus' interior and the TC's. Sounds like patience is key to get cool in the TC.

No a/c problems with mine yet, but we have had them on other vehicles before and have used a small digital thermometer to monitor the a/c temp at the vent. It should be about 43 degrees or cooler I think. They will do the same thing at the dealer to show you that it is working.

No AC problems in mine. Almost too cold on some days at the coldest setting. My TC gets parked in my garage overnight and while I'm home. As for the TC getting hot when parked in the sun such as on a big asphalt parking lot griddle, I've gotten into the habit of cracking the front windows down 1/2 inch or so. Hot air rises and leaves through the top of the windows. My old car had a sun roof, and leaving it slightly open would help tremendously.

As for the acceleration delay, I've noticed that too. Blaming it on the drive-by-wire connection between the pedal and the engine. Was a little un-nerving at first, but either it's a rare happening or I'm used to it and not noticing it much lately.

OK, with reference to my above post, I know why I get it in the UK, as I have a manual, the throttle is set for 750 rpm, and will not work below that.

I do have a habit of creeping forward when looking for a gap to pull out, and by engaging the gearbox/clutch, my throttle drops below the magic 750, and now in effect will not accelerate.

Now I know to give it a bit of gas before creeping, and when I get a gap in the traffic, it pulls away nicely.

Perhaps you guys are getting it because you have engaged the A/C?
