Purchasing A Used Ford Transit - Help with choosing best model?

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I am looking to purchase a used Ford Transit w/ a build out already done - for weekend camping trips, etc. and would love your thoughts on helping pick the right model. In general I love how small they are - understand reviews are mixed on long-term reliability and handling driving in snow... really looking for something I can count on for many years to come assuming I take great care of it..

Option 1 - 2020 Ford Transit Connect XL -  - Saw this one in person and loved it. Only 79K miles and she ALREADY had to replace the transmission - yikes - are the 2020 models particularly unreliable? If they already had to replace the transmission, does that mean it's likely it will need to be replaced again? What should I be aware of for 2020 model

Option 2 - 2013/2014 Models - saw one with 100K miles that was horribly maintained and mechanic told me to run for the hills. Going to see another today, curious if anyone has any general thoughts on purchasing a 2013/2014 model with 100k + miles VS. a 2020 with less miles - is it possible the older versions are actually MORE reliable and a better long-term purchase?

Any thoughts and wisdoms general insights v much appreciated!!! Thank you so much

My 2016 has been extremely reliable. Not a single issue and it's my daily since new. Then again, I have maintained it very well, transmission flush every 50K etc.

Regarding snow handling: no issues whatsoever with snow tires. As good as any other medium-large size car.
