To measure the clearance is straight forward to adjust them requires the removal of the camshafts and that will require the cam timing to be involved. A formidable job and with a transverse engine .  The 2.5 engine timing is a challenge as  the crank sprocket  does not have a key and relies on the clamping force of the balancer.

If you measure them and they are not too tight I would stop there.

Thanks for the advice, that brings me to my second question.

Is there a replacement mileage stated as to when the timing chain components need to be changed out?

There is no regular interval.  The better job you do on keeping the Oil clean the longer the Cam phaser and  chain guides will last.  Some of the 2.5s have clocked large mileages over 300000mi.  It pays to keep the oil clean.

As a side note the transmissions will benefit from Drain and fills  at 25000 to 30000 mile intervals.

Thanks again, just watched a video on re-timing the 2.5L ? Lots of opportunity to screw up.
