mudslinger
I purchased my XLT wagon in California and it is registered as a truck. I have seen work vans registered as cars. Does anyone have an explanation for this? My renewal is due soon and I will be paying more than those owners with passenger car plates. Ouch! I can't speak to California, but mine is registered as a station wagon. I do have the backseat so maybe that is why. Or more likely, it is arbitrary for in-between vehicles like ours. If that is the case, maybe you can have it changed. I'd try writing my state legislator.

With the rear seats and windows Ford changes it's designation from "Van" to "Wagon". That means "Truck" to "Car". Your insurance policy should also reflect this also and you may be able to use it to argue your case with the State.
