Carpenters/remodelers...how's your van?

Recommended Posts

I'd like to hear from any of the carpenters or remodelers that use their van for work. How is it for loading your tools and getting lumber? Do you load plywood or Sheetrock? I've been in business for 30 years(although 20 of that I've also been a firefighter and carpentry was my second job). I'm going to be retiring soon and want something better on gas than my full size dodge van. I usually do kitchens and bathrooms but I might need occasional plywood or sheetrock for my jobs. I've thought about sprinters but they are expensive and costly to repair. The transit might fit my needs, but I need some feedback frm people that use them on a full time basis before I decide. Thanks

I run a small carpentry sub and handyman business. Love my Transit. I built shelves for the back to maximize floor space. I put one of the Prime Design Aluracks on it which I use when I need to carry a few sheets of rock or plywood- that's the only real drawback I've found. That and a 4x4 version would be nice sometimes! Oh, and the stereo sucks! I also thought about Sprinters, but cost ruled them out pretty quick!

I am a cabinet maker and install kitchen cabinets.

Mine came with aan Adrian headache panel.

I put another divider in between that and the back door

Filled it with shelves

I carry access at side doors

Makita tool bag

Tool box

two festool boxes

two festool tracks

folding table

stand for mitersaw

stands for cabinet jack

planks for scaffold

first aid

five screw boxes and room to spare.

In the rear I carry

Bosch table saw

saw stand

two step ladder five foot ladder four foot scaffold broom

compressor

vacuum

base and lift for cabinetizer

garbage bags

Bosch miter saw

cords above wheelwells

garbage can

can contains, three vacuum hoses

220 cord

4 bessy clamps

rip blade

out riggers for mitersaw

four foot and two foot level

squarebox of shims

All made from 5/8 ply with room to spare in the rear as well.

This only works when every item has its spot and not on top of each other.

Loading and unloading is quicker and I do not have to crawl inside.

Van does not sag.

milage is 24 MPG

or 11.36 L per 100 KM
