framebinder
The stock radio and speakers are incredibly cheap. When I pulled the radio/cd player, I found a sticker on it that says to discard if dropped. Meaning it's cheaper to replace than fix. The door speaker is a 5 1/4" with a whizzer cone that pretends to be a tweeter. My new Alpine speaker weighs 3 times as much due mostly to a serious magnet. So, here's my question, how do you run wire, heavier gauge, to the front doors? The wire boot that carries the existing wire is not usable. It plugs into the body with a large connector. The back doors have a hollow boot which though hard, it is possible to use. Thanks in advance. John
rlschow
I gave up trying to solve that one and just cut the factory speaker wires inside the kick panel. From there I soldered some AWG12 stranded speaker wire which runs to a power amp installed under the passenger seat. If I were going to use the amplifiers of my in-dash head unit, I definitely would not bother with replacing the factory speaker wires. It's a lot of work, the factory wires are of a reasonable gauge (maybe AWG16), and given the inherently noisy listening environment of car audio, there is no audible benefit from a better speaker wire.
