I got my Transit Connect 2 weeks ago today, On this tank I have been really trying to be good and see what I could get for mileage under a best case scenario. I'm sure I won't see this good all the time, but nice to know it's possible with careful driving.

I have to admit, for something weighting over 4000lbs this is crazy good mpg. If I ran the tank really low I would be able to hit 450 miles on a tank.

Thats great but I have the cargo van and its weight about 3400 lbs if you have a wagon it may weight more but still way under 4000. My mpg is sucks it should not be as much variation between same vehicle but will see if things gets better

I took mine to the local truck scales with a full tank I got 3940, however that was after I removed the 3rd row seats that weighed 112lbs. So it should be over 4000lbs. Mine's a LWB Wagon Titanium with all options except the second row overhead storage bin, so it's probably the heaviest example out there. Ford's website has the LWB Wagon listed at right around 3900. These are heavy unfortunately, but man is there alot of space inside!

Drove easy for the first 500 miles while keeping the rpms moving around, used moderate throttle for the next 500 miles also keeping rpms moving around. Changed the oil and filter at 1000 miles (Mobil 1 0W-20). Then did a few wide open throttle runs.

Same procedure I do on all my new engines, and I've always got exceptional mileage out of my cars and they have never burned a drop of oil and I change the oil every 10,000 miles

Make sure to get the 0W-20 instead of the 5W-20. You get extra flow when the engine is cold and starting the engine is where all the wear happens.. Same price and you get a larger protection range ;)
