goshanego
Hello there transit world. Another new owner here with plans to add modular camper components to our 2010 transit. Already some good looking work from current members on this forum that has given me some ideas! Coming from the VW world it would cool to see just a percentage of the activity that happens on TheSamba happen here on this site...Hope I will be able to follow thru with posting images of the transformation as we start to build our components. My idea is to make the camper components small enough and light enough that I can move things in and out as need be to make space for the occasional work job, home repair, moving or other random van job. So far we have added a yakima roof rack and I may set up my mega warrior cargo basket up there as well for summer beach trips and music festivals. It will be tricky to fit this all in with three of us traveling together, but I believe it can be done! Happy Trails.
ecore8
Go for it! I had a great time designing and building mine. I built a new interior for a 1972 VW camper about 10 years ago for a friend and had been waiting for a modern vehicle to convert for myself ever since. I wanted a small camper that could also be my daily driver and could serve as a base camp for MTBing and hiking trips. Check out this builder in the UK called Amdro Alternative Camper. His facebook page is pretty good. Edited April 25, 2013 by ecore8
goshanego
Thanks, I have seen his facebook page and there are some good ideas. I have also looked at your gallery page as well. Would be great to hear some feedback on how your design is working out. There are also some great ideas looking at Kangoo Campers - also popular in Europe. How has your van handled the New England weather? I lived in Holyoke for a couple of years before moving back to Maryland!
ecore8
The TC seems to handle the snow pretty well, even with the stock tires. The traction control certainly wont let you spin the tires even if you want. I might get some proper snow tires next winter though. I've been really happy with the camper layout. I've thought about trying to build a few kits to sell but I'm not sure there is enough interest here. Plus Ford went and changed the vehicle design without consulting me . goshanego
