Tommy D
I'm pretty sure emission standards will put the kabosh on this but will their be a Diesel option for this little van in the USA? Not much a fan of Gasoline Powered Multi cammed <read high maintence> overly complex engines. Thanks Guys! Tommy D
Dunno
The call for a Transit Connect diesel in North America has been pretty strong on the online forums, but I haven't heard anything official from Ford yet. I really can't see how useful the full-electric version will be other than for novelty. Modern diesels shouldn't have any problems meeting or exceeding emissions standards. Volkswagen, for example, offers several diesel powered vehicles. Since Ford won't offer a diesel powered Transit Connect here in North America, I guess I'll have to pick up a Golf Wagon TDi instead. scottacus1100
I was at the Auto show in Detroit last week and I talked to the Transit Connect specialist. She told me right now there are no plans for the deisel or Ecoboost motors. Now that could change next year, but when the 11's come out there won't be either option. An electric is supposed to come out this summer. I am not sure if it is a Hybrid or all electric. I think they would do a lot better with something more powerful. PetrosA
... I think they would do a lot better with something more powerful. An electric model could potentially eliminate the underpowered stigma of the TC (no gas engine can match the torque of an electric motor.). Mine is definitely underpowered now that it weighs in at about 4500-4700 lbs and mileage with that weight and two ladders on top hasn't been great. I'm averaging about 18-18.5 mpg now. Even a hybrid that would allow electric starts would help, since the biggest problem for me is getting up to speed when I need to join a flow of traffic - I need at least 10-12 seconds to get up to 55 mph. I need a ridiculously wide opening before I can pull out without forcing other drivers to slow down for me :( If I'm starting out at the bottom of a hill it's even worse since I probably won't hit 55 at all till it levels out.
