  1. Aloha tranzy, Do you have any experince cooking with it in your transit, woundering about amp load on my exisitng 12 volt system. Want you to know how much I enjoyed visiting your country last summer, Canadian customs gave me the "full Monty" van strip search in Windsor, I think they were more curious when they refelected on the idea I was RVing in such a small vehicle, I thought it interesting that Candian authorties were more interested in 1) what kind of camper is this 2) why does this Hawaiian want to come here and finally3) am I bringing american merchandise into Canada without paying taxes. All went well, great summer weather, friendly people, and lots of Asians in Toronto!!! but no Hawaiians.
  2. Aloha Chris, Just joined forum myself, born raised on "big Island", bought new 2010 Transit, found it perfect all around vehicle, decided time to get off island for long road trip, converted it into small rv/camper, shipped it to CA, and have been on year and a half road trip ever since. I love my transit, its my home, although I do 5 star hotels when the occasion arises, still lots cheaper than maintaining a home. Hope your transit experience are as good.
  3. Left Hawaii a little over a year ago to travel the mainland, Yes many Hawaiians would love to get off Gilligans Island, as long as we can go home. have lived on and off in my Forf transit, I have a bed, 12 vot electrtic, small toliet, its comfy, but when supplemented with campgrounds occasional motel, it has been an adventure, I could write a book about.. With blackout windows the Ford Transit Connect is the most inconspicous RV/camper in a parking lot. Really helpful when I stay in public parking lot on the beach that dont allow over nite camping. I built my own bunk, shelves, and installed 12 volt system using transit connect R/V conversion plans from diy conversons.com, needed some modifications, but overall there small rv diy plans saved me lots of money and time, no sense reinventing wheel. Hope this helps. aloha
  4. aloha richand, Yes you can make your own shelving and save big bucks, built mine using 1- 4x8x 3/4", and 1-4x8x1/2" sheet of ply wood, bought set of templets from diyconversion.com, saved lots of time and most of all aggravation in cutting compound curved cuts, had mine in for 2 years, anchored to floor by removing anchor bolt (T-50), and than use angled brakets to attach to sheet metal interior van wall and wood shelving.
  5. aloha, Your right you can make your own shelves alot cheaper, checkout do it yourself plans at DIYconversions.com, ordered set a couple years ago, mofified mine with center rear pull outs drawers, simple build, jigsaw, and cordless drill
  6. Aloha, Just joined, am presently traveling mainland in my DIY constructed transit rv/camper conversion. Bought simple to follow plans and templets, simple build with basic wood tools, made some modifications but works well. Does anyone have a small 12 volt micro they would recommend ?
  7. Aloha mo, Just joined site, know your pain, tried finding shelving when bought my 2010, found great shelf plans used easy to trace templets, which could be easily modified for thickness. The original one have a very nice curve. I think pre-cut ones are available for assembly. Try www.DIYconversions.com Malama Pono
  8. Aloha Karen, Just joined, currently traveling extensively in my DIY Ford Transit rv/camper on mainland. Bought set of plans and templates for rear shelving /storage system back in 2010, worked great, only cost $60 for plans and around $50 for materials, really simple construction, and surprisingly attractive,(painted to match transit). Most other commercial units sell for severalhundreds of$. I think the plans and templets are still available as well as per cut ready to assemble units. Worth a check.
