bostintransit
Thanks to help from the good folks in this forum, have successfully replaced my old broken OEM AM/FM/CD stereo with a touchscreen aftermarket stero. I used the Metra 99-5831G body kit which keeps the original 4" screen for the backup camera. However, as others have mentioned in this forum, Even with the correct wiring harness and connections on the body kit, the OEM backup camera stops working reliably. Other members have mentioned that disconnecting the passenger airbag indicator resolves the issue, although that causes the airbag fault indicator to show up when you start the car. I wasn't wiling to accept both the loss of the backup camera or the airbag fault warning, so I called Metra to see if the had a solution. Their recommendation was to "cut the yellow wire" on the 6-pin connection to the airbag indicator light on the Metra body kit. He seemed pretty confident, so I went along with it even though it seemed like a strange solution. However, it worked like a charm. I peeled back a bit of the wrap on that group of cables to expose more of the yellow wire, cut it, and wrapped the ends in some electrical tape. Now the backup camera feed comes on the 4" screen every time. My only problem now is the head unit stopped connecting to our phones via android auto/carplay, so I have to exchange it for a new one. Here is some more info of the stuff I used for someone like me who was trying to figure this out: Stereo: BOSS Audio Systems BVCP9700A Wiring Harness: XSVI-5524-NAV NOTE: Even though my card didn't come with navigation and the new stereo doesn't use navigation, I still needed this version because I had the AM/FM w/ CD player. If you just have an AM/FM w/o CD you have to use Metra 70-5524 which has a different power connection. This interface includes a connection to the parking break wire, so no fancy wiring or work-arounds required to get around the parking break connection requirement your aftermarket stereo might have. This wiring harness has a connection to steering wheel controls that I'm not using, so I just didn't connect that to anything. Antenna adapter: Metra 40-EU10 Antenna to Radio Adapter Body Kit: Metra 99-5831G I used these heat-shrink butt connectors to make the wiring connections: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B099JGZD3D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Where possible, you can find things cheaper than buying retail. I got both the body kit and wiring harness off ebay for a significant discount. Also, don't hesitate to call the manufacturers for support. Metra and Boss support have been very helpful in figuring this stuff out.
thescher
Hey I'm trying to do the same. I thought the wiring harness connected connector to connector.. What exactly are using the butt connectors for? What wires are you splicing. FYI - I do have the CD option with out NAV like you, I don't have steering wheel controls, but do have 4" screen rear factory reverse cam.
