2002 no temp gauge reading and low power mode

Hi all , Just joined today. I have a t200 transit connect, with no temp gauge reading. the needle bounces a little when I switch the ignition on but does not read anything when the engine is running even after 20 miles.

I have fitted today a new genuine part coolant temp sender but this has made no difference. I read some where that if the temp gauge does not move then the engine switches to low power mode which I think is happening as when she warms up I need more pedal to keep the speed up.

Could it be the dash? Is there a fuse or relay to check? Am a little bit loathed to book it into a main dealer due to possible cost's.

Any help much appreciated,

Thank you
