Paul F
First 3 pics. Step 4A. Building the bed. This is the stationary portion of the bed. Made of 2x3s with a piece of formica underneath so the pull out slats don't drop to the storage area underneath the bed. Wood is stained with Minwax slate grey. Has a bluish tint that I really like. Gonna keep the floors the way they are. Bought the birch prefinished. Factory did a better job than I could. Storage underneath is 16" height. The left and right sides that hold the bed up are made of pine 1x2s and 1x3s. Built like cabinet front frames and screwed in from the bottom of the 1/2" birch floor. Step 4B. Next 7 pics are the completed slat bed. I built 2 bed stands to hold the front of the bed up. The front seats are moved as far forward as possible and tilted forward as well. This extra room was critical for making the bed long enough for me and still have room for the kitchen and porta potty in the back of the van. I used 1/4" carriage bolts to hold the front of the bed slats to the stands with another one in the permanent side to make sure the slats don't slide backwards away from the front seats.
