2014 Transit Connect - aftermarket wiring and harness woes

I finally got around to connecting everything,  but when I turned the car on the stero didn't power up. I matched all the wires between the adapter and the stereo and crimped them, but I'm wondering if something is off. I noticed that the adapter I got (Metra 70-5524) has two red wires - one of which is marked "2011 Fiesta only". If that was mis-labelled, that might explain the problem. Alternately, the stereo might be a dud, but tha's harder to check. The support tech from the radio manufacturer said that you can actually test that by touching a couple of cables (the red and yellow I think) to the battery terminals and using the ground as well to see if the radio starts up, but that's a pain in the ass on the Transit because the negative terminal is stuck way back under the windshield and hard to access (p). lus that sounds a little scary).

Here is the connection from the car:

And here is the wiring harness adapter:

Any suggestions?

The yellow one is connected to 12v all the time..?

The other red (no the fiesta only) is connected to ignition switch 12v..?

The Yellow is supposed to be the "12 Volt Battery/Constant" (it's labelled that way on the adapter), and the red one (not the fiesta one) is labelled "Ignition/switched 12V+"

@Jseda , was your original radio only AM/FM, or did you have the CD player as well? I called Metra support (who made the adapter) and they said if you have a CD player then you need the more expensive wiring harness (XSVI-5524-NAV). I don't see that many things to connect to in my car though.

No, I had Am/fm ,aux only. No CD , no 4" screen

Did you check power with a multimeter in those cable to be sure is no blow fuse?

Ah, then I think they're right then. I'm going to have to get a fancier harness (and unclip all these damn wires).

What radio are you trying to install,  original radio or aftermarket?

Did you check fuses ?

@Jseda I compared my plug with your plug, and I don't have the cables labelled #4 and 5 in your photo:

I think that's my problem and why I need the different wiring harness.

Did you wired this one...?

Yes I just noticed that looking your plug... you are missing the 12v acc/ignition that's why your radio doesn't turn on..

So I got this wiring harness, and it powered up just fine.

https://axxessinterfaces.com/product/XSVI-5524-NAV

There is something different about the wiring in TC's with the base CD player that requires that harness. Thankfully I got it used so I still didn't pay $50 for it. Everything is looking good, but now I want to see if I can integrate the stock backup camera into the new head unit, because I can't reliably get the little screen to show the back-up view now.

Anyone have suggestions for that?

Thanks,

Jake

On my 2014 Connect, I used the Fiesta labeled red wire for Accessory Power

For backup camera retention there is
Axxess AXSWCH-FD1 Plug-N-Play SWC and Back-Up Camera Retention Harness Best buy usually has it for around $10-13

But I will warn, on my 2014 lwb wagon with single disk/4inch screen the image it gives is garbage, very grainy, I had to jack the brightness and contrast of my aftermarket unit to the max to be even remotely viewable and I tried 2 of them. I called the company and they said they never actually tested on a '14 and just assumed it would work since it does for 15-18. I t works fine on the factory screen which granted is so small you wouldn't notice some grain.

I already have a new AHD camera cable ran from the rear door to the dash, I just have to get off my butt and replace the factory cam with the new camera (and even that is a stop gap until I get stupid enough to buy/install one of those birds eye camera systems)

Everything I've read said that harness doesn't work for the 2014, so how it works for you is even better than I thought it would (although still not great). Per the recommendation from Axxess support, I cut the yellwo wire in the factory harness and that fixed the backup camera problem in the original 4" screen, but I'm not able to update the date & time! I took a break from car troubleshooting for a while, but I'll need to figure that out. I don't know if i can adjust that with FORSCAN or if I'm going to have to rig something with the original radio controls, which I kept for just that purpose.
