russmrh
I am new to here and try not to work on cars too much anymore. That being said. I have a Transit Connect 2011 xlt. I bought it used and have loved it ever since. I was having bearing issues (noisier the faster I go.) I checked in with a shop on how much it would cost to do the job. He told me it would take 4 hours and cost me 450 in labor and the parts were $250. After tax we are looking at $700. I passed. I asked a technician changing my oil if it was the right or left side. He told me the left side. I checked out youtube and everything came off quick till I came to the pushed in bolt on the ball joint. It was very tough to separate. I bought a forked seperater tool that you turn the bolt, but it was not wide enough. I searched online to no avail. I tried smacking the knuckle with a sledge and it did not work. Finally I attached a 3 leg gear puller and put it under a lot of pressure had smacked it 4 times and it popped out. I had to press out the bearings and had a local shop do it. The ball joint needed replacement so I bought a moog ball joint. I loaned a kit to press out ball joints but my knuckle got in the way . I pressed it out some and used chisels to finish the job. I could not press it in right also because the universal tool did not fit well. I put the ball joint in the freezer before hand and that helped get it in further. Ultimately I had to have it pressed on the last bit. It seems you need very specialized tools to do any work on this vehicle. Any suggestions on where I can find these proper tools?
