freedom35
Hey guys, Have any of you connected to either of the fuse boxes in a newer Connect? I have a 2022 model, and I have a DC-DC battery charger that needs to be connected to an ignition switched voltage source. I looked at both fuse boxes (engine and under glove box), and I can't figure out a good way to tap into these. Is there a better way to connect to the system without going into the fuse box? Any help would be appreciated!
Andrewcrow_11
I’m in the same boat trying to connect my dashcam, best thing I’ve seen short of just adding a auxiliary fuse box is a fuse tap, just make sure you use a micro2 fuse tap as a mini fuse tap wont fit the fuse box in engine bay is the easier one to access imo freedom35

The fuse box in the engine bay is definitely more accessible, but I don't see a good way to use a fuse tap in there. The whole thing is sealed and needs to be removed to even check or replace a fuse. lowspeedpursuit
I mostly logged in to say I just watched a video of someone accessing the 2019+ engine bay power distribution box, and that's almost the worst thing I've ever seen. Even if you were interested in doing the work, I imagine installing a fusetap in there would compromise the weatherproofness, which is probably the whole point of the goofy setup. Looking at the '22 glove box fuse key, I would double-check 2, 9, and 21. All that shit seems the most likely to be on switched power. If there's really nothing there, I guess you're tapping wires. Try to pick one that won't totally break everything if it fails. I like rear wipers.

I noticed after taking this out there’s a small gap on the left between where the fuse block clips back in and the body, if you decide to use a fuse tap you could run the cable through the gap if it’s long enough
Obeisance
I chose to avoid the fuse box, since it was too complicated. Instead, I bought some USB mini cables and made a reversible splice into the center console USB power line. This gives my dashcam a switched, 5V supply. I don't know if this has enough power for more than USB devices, though. I routed the dashcam USB cable through the dashboard and up the right side a-pillar (watch out not to block the airbag) to reach the camera. I used Molex Part Number: 111015-0200 (USB mini B plug, polarization A, to USB A receptacle), and Molex Part Number: 111019-2010 (USB mini B plug to USB mini B receptacle, polarization A). I had to cut the keyways into the USB mini B parts, but other than that, it was fairly straightforward. Obeisance
Here's the cable installed in the space under the center console.
