So, we have a 2014 Transit Connect XLT with the 2.5L engine. For some reason, she won't start. She cranks and will start on starter fluid. Since she'll start on starter fluid, in the spirit of, "you have to have fuel and fire," we figure we have fire so it has to be a fuel issue.
We dropped the fuel tank and verified the fuel pump capable of creating pressure (direct wired it to 12V momentarily). Then, figured maybe it isn't being commanded to pump so we tried replacing the FPDM. Nothing changed. There is no shrader valve to check the fuel pressure, so opened the line and there is fuel under pressure. So, the fact she'll run on starter fluid momentarily implies the ignition system is capable of combusting. The fuel line appears to be getting pressure. Maybe something in the computer is not actuating the fuel injectors??? I mean, if there is pressurized fuel in the fuel line and I'm capable of igniting a fuel/air mixture (or at least starting fluid), then maybe the reason I don't have a combustion is the injectors aren't injecting? I'm just throwing out ideas as this one is a pain in the posterior.
We've checked all of the fuses and they are all good. There is no fuel pump relay, but from what I've read it is integrated into the FPDM (which is why we tried replacing it). Next, just because why not, we drained the fuel and put in some fresh fuel to see if maybe the fuel was too old in the tank. As expected, no change, but at least we can check that off the list of potential issues.
Pulling codes, here is what I'm seeing in the returned DTCs:
Any ideas of what to try next? Thanks!
