  1. We bought our 2016 LWB Transit Connect for the purpose of converting it into a road trip vehicle. We often drive long distances to ski (we live in Michigan and there aren't any mountains here) and ride mountain bikes. The van is intended to serve those use cases. It isn't intended to be lived out of for long periods of time, it just needs to be comfortable enough to pull off the road when we get tired and catch some good sleep. When we get to the destination, we will stay in more legitimate accommodations (VRBO, AirBnB, etc...). I'll start with the electrical system. Having slept in my various cars (Subaru WRX and Subaru Forester), I knew that we had to invest in keeping warm. If I had my say, I'd invest in better sleeping bags and be done with it. Mrs. Chong, on the other hand, was having none of that idea. It was heated blanket or bust. Luckily, I have some friends who are electrical engineers. They helped me design a power system that will power the heated blanket we bought for a full 1.5 days without recharging. The BOM for this system is as follows: 2 Optima YellowTop D31t 75Ah Deep Cycle Batteries Battery Boxes Blue Sea Systems 120A DC Add a Battery Kit Noco Genius 10AMP 1 Bank Battery Charger 3 Blue Sea Systems Fuse Block Terminals 3 125A Blue Sea Systems Terminal (slow blow) Fuses Blue Sea Systems 6 Circuit DC Fuse Block 1000W Pure Sine Wave Inverter Combination Cigarette Lighter and USB Outlets (DC) 2AWG Copper Wire And various other bits for wiring up the circuits. The first thing to do was to run the wiring from the engine compartment into the cabin. We ran this through the stock grommet in the firewall behind the glove box on the passenger side. We ran one 2AWG wire to the positive battery terminal and one 2AWG wire to the stock chassis ground next to the battery. We installed one of the Fuse Block Terminals and Slow blow fuses between the starter battery and the add a battery kit: We then got to work on wiring up the rest of the kit. Here's a shot of the panel I made for the Add a Battery Kit and the DC Fuse Panel: That panel lives in that little cubby beneath the passenger seat. Here's an in-progress shot of wiring up the batteries, charger, and inverter: You can see that every single battery has a fuse on the positive terminal. This should keep the system from drawing too much current. If something needs more than 125A, that likely wouldn't be good. It will be neat to see what that inverter does when I finally power it on with a load. Those fuses are rated to sustain 2x the current load they are rated for, for a duration of 1 second, I believe (I'm not an expert on this stuff, but I have friends that design the transformers that live on the global electrical grid, they signed off on the design). And the forum is now telling me I'm at the attachment limit for a single post. Really need BBCode so I can link these from flickr. To be continued...
  2. Howdy, folks! Can anyone living in Tucson/Phoenix, Arizona (or nearby) that owns a 2nd generation Connect Wagon (trim doesn't matter) please help me? I need to hand measure Front Driver's seat, which includes removing/re-installing for a project I'm working on. I have the Ford Workshop Manual section on seat removal with proper torque specs and I also have all correct tools, including torque wrench. I have cash to give you for your time. This will be a 2-part process; first time we meet, preferably asap, I'll need less than 1hr. Second time (late Nov), I'll need 1-2hrs. Please respond here, or PM me. Thanks for your help!
  3. Hi from the SF Bay Area! New here!
  4. Hi All - I just took delivery of a 2018 XLT L+Cargo Van LWB. I am in the early stages of planning a removable camping build and was happy to find and join this great forum. I took about 80 photos of the van yesterday (Interior and Exterior) but since I am new to the forum, I'm not sure if people would find posting all or some of them to be helpful. Please let me know. In the meantime, here's a basic portrait and a scan of the window sticker for anyone interested. Looking forward to further conversations
  5. After much deliberation and research I bought a CPO 2014 Titanium LWB last week (October 2017). I had not really been looking at used vans but this seemed too good to pass up for a cheap guy like me. Other vehicles considered: Chrysler Pacifica and MB Metris. Plan to use it for work hauling signs and supplies to the bay area plus travel/camping and taking the dogs to the river. I've owned wagons (volvo, audi, vw) but with the near death of these and my need for greater cargo area I have to say good bye to the era of wagons. Michael Williams Sacramento, CA
  6. Hello all, You can see the specs for the wheels in the Wheels & Tires section of the forum. Here's a few pics of my '16 LWB Cargo all shined up!
  7. Hello all, Just purchased an XLT Cargo TC (actually hard to find!) Primarily used for work and hauling on-location photo equipment. It is working out perfectly since I was tearing up the interior of my car & SUV with all the gear. Just added a set of 18" Focus ST wheels from ebay ($500). Great fit and looks great! Added Genral Altimax 235/45/18 which give me clearance all the way around. Brake caliper covers come from MGP for $199 which keep the wheels shiny and look sporty as well. On the lookout for a spoiler and an exhaust tip and I think I'll be done. Here's a few pics after a wash yesterday.
  8. Like the title says i bought a 2014 transit connect wagon LWB and the Ford dealer removed the seats for me. I have no use for these they are out of a brand new car. Never been used or sat in. If you go to ford to buy these seats complete they are more than 2,500$ for both. These are the third row seats. (2 Seats, Right, and Left), bolts included. Its super cool the way they fold, i just bought the vehicle for work and have no use for them. My loss your gain shoot me a message for any questions. -2 (new condition) Ford Transit Connect XLT LWB 3rd row seats. - $950 w/ rails and hardware. (easy bolt in seats) I live in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. I really do not want to ship but will at buyers expense. Call or message for more pics and info. http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/pts/4752849356.html
