ncranchero got a reaction from desert_connect in Sliding door glass add-on
My ‘18 didn’t have a glass in the left slider when I got it ? Merging into traffic just using the mirror was just uncomfortable, especially after my ‘14 was equipped with the glass. I had a local glass company install one a week or so ago. Much better, much safer. The Ford/Carlite glass was $195, installation $45. Worth every cent!

The 2014-2019 should be the same.

I went with the Ranger/PoPo center caps on my ‘18 also, am leaving the wheels black though. Wish I had located the posts about them when I had my black ‘14.

ncranchero got a reaction from G B L in 2018 XLT- Reverse camera question
I’m about 3 weeks in on my 2018 and have a couple questions.
1- the screen is considerably dimmer than my 2014 was. Any adjustments to brighten it up?
2- on the 2014 when going from reverse to neutral the camera would stay on, the 2018 doesn’t. The 2014 allowed me to park (with the brake up) and keep an eye on what’s happening behind me. I miss that. Any comments?

I think I’ve read all the camera posts and not seen references to my questions. My screen does show the minus/magnifying glass discussed elsewhere so I’ll have to play with that now.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

I haven't like the hubcaps on my 2018 XLT, since the day I bought it.  (They reminded me of snowflakes!).  So after a little bit of research, I decide to go with center caps and possibly trim rings.  Originally, I was going to go with black wheels, but it looked too much like a cop car.  I still haven't decided on the trim rings.  But I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

My back-up light relay went FUBAR yesterday so I swapped the DRL relay into it's place until the next PM @ Ford, then warranty. Actually I don't think I'll put the DRL back on, didn't like it as well as I thought I would. I will make them replace that crazy-high relay though!

Awesome info ! ! I'll be making that modification in short order! A little research yields some replacement part numbers if your Ford dealer doesn't have one.

ncranchero got a reaction from operating engineer O/O in TPMS Sensors
    Frankly I like my TPMS.
This is a bit interesting as to the functionality of the TPMS. This says the TMPS control module is a "stand alone" receiver. interpret this as you will and it may be worth a try to just unplug the module.
From the FORD Service Manual :
    Principles of Operation
NOTE: The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) module is also identified as the Vehicle Security Module (VSM). This module contains only TPMS functionality.
NOTE: This vehicle requires 2 different air pressures – 1 for the front wheels and 1 for the rear wheels. The tire pressure sensors must be trained following every tire rotation. Failure to train the sensors will result in a false low tire event.
The TPMS monitors the air pressure of all 4 road tires via 4 pressure sensors located in the road wheels. Each sensor has a unique identifier number that is sent to the TPMS receiver during system training. The module retains these identifier numbers in memory and associates them with a vehicle position based on the training order. The sensors transmit pressure information to the module via radio frequency signals once every minute when vehicle speed exceeds 32 km/h (20 mph), or once every 6 hours when stationary. The TPMS/VSM is a standalone receiver located behind the glove compartment. The TPMS function compares tire pressure information against a low-pressure limit. If it determines the tire pressure has fallen below this limit, the TPMS/VSM sends a message to the Instrument Cluster (IC) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) bus. Once the IC receives this message, it will illuminate the TPMS indicator.

ncranchero got a reaction from weave in False alerts
I started getting false alerts yesterday, every time I'd put my TC in reverse. They were varying "distance" alerts, like it couldn't make up it's mind how far the object was away from the vehicle . By the end of the afternoon it was just a continuous "beeeeeeeeeeep" when in reverse. :censored: Upon researching it a bit in the service manual it appears there's very little electrical diagnosis that can be done without Fords scan tool. But, one of the first things it says is to clean the sensors with high pressure water. With all the rain here this week my van was a little dirty so I washed it this morning. I also directed the full focused, full blast water stream into each sensor. Finished the wash job, got in, placed it in reverse ........silence. So, if you start getting false alerts the first thing to do is wash the sensors out real good.
