Can I tap into my stock radio for power?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Avid reader, first time poster here. I just purchased a rearview camera/monitor for my 2014 TC. It works fine. but I can't seem to find a good easy spot to tap into for power for the monitor. I tapped into the fuse box behind the glove box and was able to get power from the reverse lights fuse, but it's constant power. Is it possible to tap into the head unit's wire harness for power, and if so, does anyone happen to know the color of the wire, as well as any other precautions for a newbie? Thanks in advance!!

What kind of camera is it?

I connected my screen to the constant power of the overhead cabin light and the camera remote start cable (attached to the camera unit) to the reverse light cable in the rear cluster. So the camera only turns on when the reverse lights turn on and once it starts feeding the picture the screen turns on.

Here is the system:

The rear camera is wired just like yours. I purchased the wireless transmitter so it transmits wirelessly to the monitor. When I tap into constant power on the monitor, the monitor keeps flashing the backlight as if it's trying to display, but it's not receiving anything. When I put it in reverse, it works fine. I'm just trying to find a way to have the monitor work when the ignition is on, but turn back off when the ignition is off.
