Heavy fuel smell in van upon fill up

Anyone else get a heavy fuel smell inside the van upon fill up. I noticed this seemed to happen only when the gas attendant over fills the cap less gas tank. Wonder if this is also related to the recent recall concerning fuel line routing. Anyone?

hard to believe NJ still won't let you pump your own fuel. used to live there until 1984, exit 137.

unless you're watching the attendant you have no idea how much extra fuel they are trying to add.

I remember reading in the manual with a big warning not to overfill. See below.

Do not overfill the fuel tank. The
pressure in an overfilled tank may
cause leakage and lead to fuel spray
and fire.

A fuel spillage concern may occur if
overfilling the fuel tank. Do not overfill the
tank to the point that the fuel is able to
bypass the fuel filler nozzle. The overfilled
fuel may run down the drain located below
and in front of the fuel filler door.

I just had this happen the other day and it was one of the few times I went to a self service gas station, and yes, after the initial stop of the pump they tried to pump more in. the next day i had the smell in the van.

So the question is, how does the fuel vapor enter the van when its over filled?

Brought it in for the recall on the fuel line routing and found it was kinked. They say thus was the reason for the heavy fuel smell in the van on fill up.....no smell since....although I don't know if anyone has overfilled it yet

I had a check engine light come on my van. On checking the fault signal the dealer says the fuel filler is causing the fault and they will install a new one. They said they thought that might be the cause of the fuel smell. I will keep you posted.
